MAINTENANCE - Maintenance - Carpenter/Plummer
SUMMARY OF PURPOSE
This position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks, primarily focusing on
carpentry and plumbing, to ensure that all district buildings and facilities are safe, functional, and
well-maintained for students, staff and community. This position requires a combination of technical
expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The
position is responsible for providing a clean, orderly, and sanitized building which presents a
positive atmosphere for students and handling some special detail that is different than others. The
incumbent works with other members of the department in meeting department goals and
objectives in support of the ELANCO mission to provide a social and educational environment for
the students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Work on maintenance work orders as assigned by supervisor and provided by the support
portal ticket application.
2. Maintain communication with outside contractors and vendors and coordinate and supervise
work performed by subcontractors.
3. Perform maintenance tasks to include locker repairs (if necessary).
4. Support the maintenance department with performing minor roof repairs in an emergency.
5. Assist with HVAC/Electrical projects when necessary.
6. Performs minor maintenance such as changing light bulbs, setting up furniture when
required.
7. Maintains work area, storage areas. –required to restock product for the projects is required
and essential for performance of essential job duties.
8. Assist maintenance department with snow removal
9. Follow all safety procedures when performing any general maintenance projects, carpentry
and plumbing projects.
10. Ensures that requests are performed in a priority manner.
11. Conducts periodic inspections of all school facilities for cleanliness and safety.
12. Identifies maintenance problems and follow department procedures to report problem and
actions to address the problem.
13. Carries two-way radio or district cell phone to respond to daily important or emergency
request for assistance.
14. Equipment preventative maintenance is required to maintain – tools, equipment, lubricants,
other products or items to make sure projects can be completed.

Carpentry:
?? Perform general carpentry work, including repairs, replacements, and installations of doors,
windows, frames, flooring, cabinets, and other wood structures.
?? Build and repair furniture and fixtures as needed for classrooms and administrative offices.
?? Maintain and repair wooden structures such as ramps, decks, and other outdoor facilities.
?? Measure, cut, and shape wood and other materials to specified dimensions.
Plumbing:
?? Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, including pipes, fittings, faucets, and fixtures
in school buildings.
?? Address and resolve plumbing issues such as leaks, clogs, water pressure problems, and
drainage issues.
?? Plan, schedule, and coordinate plumbing jobs with outside contractors and local water
authorities.
?? Perform routine inspections of plumbing systems to ensure proper function and safety
standards.
?? Respond to emergency plumbing repairs promptly, minimizing disruptions to school
operations.
General Maintenance:
?? Ensure a safe and clean environment for students, faculty, and staff by identifying and
addressing maintenance issues promptly.
?? Assist with the preparation and setup of facilities for school events, activities, and seasonal
changes.
?? Provide support for various general maintenance tasks such as drywall repairs, painting,
flooring, and HVAC system maintenance.
?? Respond to emergency maintenance requests as needed.
Safety and Compliance:
?? Follow all safety protocols and adhere to regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
?? Maintain proper records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and
inventory.
?? Assist with compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding building codes and
safety standards.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Marginal Functions will vary with the specific assignment and depend on the particular position
function for which the person is responsible.
SCOPE AND IMPACT
This position accomplishes many, but not most of its tasks through standard procedures, exercising
independent judgment when necessary. Internal contacts include teachers, counselors, office staff,
special education department, principals, psychologists, and other school district personnel. External
contacts include parents, IU, outside psychologists, PDE officials and law offices, no supervisory
responsibility is involved in this position.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a thorough knowledge of the numerous detailed processes and procedures of
pupil personnel services. A high school diploma is necessary, any certifications a plus, as well as a
minimum of three years to five years secretarial experience. The position requires knowledge of special
education procedures and documentation preferred.

Patience and a professional manner are also essential. This position requires the ability to
communicate effectively with building staff, district staff, students, parents, and other community
members. Valid drivers license is required for the position.
In addition, the position must be able to work, with interruptions, or multiple projects in process
simultaneously. The position must be able to act appropriately in emergency situations.
