Description:
The McKinney-Vento Driver is responsible for safely transporting students experiencing homelessness, as defined under the McKinney-Vento Act, to and from school, as well as other educational activities as required. The role supports student attendance and academic success by ensuring reliable and punctual transportation services.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience driving and working with children preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Ability to obtain and maintain district approval to drive a school vehicle.
- Ability to operate a vehicle safely and efficiently.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with students, families, and district personnel.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Problem-solving skills to address unexpected transportation issues.
Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board or the Superintendent may deem appropriate
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a district-approved vehicle to transport McKinney-Vento eligible students to and from school, designated bus stops, or other approved locations.
- Maintain punctuality and ensure timely pick-up and drop-off of students.
- Assist students in boarding and exiting the vehicle safely.
- Report any transportation issues or delays to the supervisor promptly.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and district policies regarding student transportation.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and cleanliness.
- Maintain accurate records of routes, mileage, and schedules.
- Follow appropriate procedures for vehicle maintenance requests and reports.
- Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for students while in transit.
- Monitor student behavior to ensure a safe and distraction-free trip; address issues following district policies.
- Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and other stakeholders as needed to coordinate transportation services.
- Attend required training sessions and meetings.
- Answer phones, take messages, and respond to inquiries from staff, parents, and the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Perform general office duties, including data entry, filing, copying, and distributing mail.
- Prepare, maintain, and update transportation schedules, routes, and rosters.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to meet the needs of the district.
Length of Employment:
- Nine (9) Months
- School calendar will determine the days worked during the school year.

Evaluation: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy GDO
