Purpose Statement:

The job of speech language pathologist is done for the purposes of providing prevention, assessment and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in language, speech, voice and fluency. These services are designed to help students meet their functional and educational goals. A primary focus is the establishment and support of a positive, safe and optimal learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement for all students considering the background, developmental level and experiences of each individual.   

 

This job reports to the Principal.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates and supports a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Observes, screens, and evaluates students to determine the current level of performance, skill levels, progress, intervention, and eligibility for speech language services. 
  • Provides direct instruction to students including analyzing, reviewing, and revising student progress; communicating with teachers and parents/guardians, and preparing the setting for instruction.
  • Collaborates with school personnel, parents/guardians, and community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, and planning instruction based on student need and learning objectives.
  • Develops speech and language educational plans including determining goals, objectives, methods, materials, frequency, and duration based on individual assessment results. 
  • Provides ideas and consult with teachers and parents/guardians regarding speech and language development and disorders including determining the needs of the child.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of required materials.
  • Manages student behaviors utilizing effective management strategies for the purpose of providing a positive, safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Organizes, facilitates, and participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. IEP meetings, team meetings) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information to perform functions.
  • Ensures that all district, state, and federal guidelines regarding confidentiality, reporting, pre-referrals, referrals, testing, recordkeeping, and service delivery for students with disabilities are strictly followed.
  • Strives to improve professional competence through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, classes and other professional development activities.
  • Utilizes technology fluently to manage all components of student programs.

 

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

 

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: performing assessments if speech and language, analyzing assessment data; preparing and maintaining accurate records; using adaptive communication tools and strategies; using pertinent software applications; and communicating effectively with adults and students

 

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: research based/evidence based intervention strategies, evaluation, and instruction; competency based education; age appropriate student management techniques

 

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working with detailed information/data; working with frequent interruptions; providing staff development as it relates to literacy-math; implementing and applying age appropriate student management techniques; being fair and consistent with a strong sense of empathy; and interpreting and complying with laws, rules, policies and trends regarding education and instruction.

 

 

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget.  Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job’s functions.  There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the Organization’s services.

 

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require following physical demands: hearing and speaking to exchange information; significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 20% walking, and 30% standing. Work may involve occasional lifting objects weighing 25-50 pounds The job is performed under some hazardous conditions and in a clean atmosphere.

 

Experience

Job related experience.

Experience with social communication intervention, assistive technology and augmentative  communication is desired.

 

Asset: Completion and maintenance of CCCs in Speech Language Pathology (SLP) is preferred

Asset: Bilingual Spanish/English

 

Education     

Targeted job related education that meets the organization’s prerequisite requirements.

 

Certificates & Licenses

A valid and current Oregon Teaching License with basic or standard speech endorsement or an appropriate license as per the State Board of Licensure for this profession

CPR/First Aid Certificate

 

 

Salary : $52,323 - $93,889
