Controller | Search Fund-Backed Wellness Company

Our client is a nationally recognized, search fund-backed behavioral health treatment center. They prioritize real, measurable patient outcomes over the traditional "revolving door" of care. Situated on a breathtaking 70 acre ranch with oak trees and a deep commitment to healing, they’re not just another healthcare business—they’re a mission-driven organization focused on transforming lives. We have been engaged to find a Controller to take full ownership of their accounting and finance function as they continue to grow. This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you’ll lead financial reporting, manage a team of two bookkeepers, oversee audits and taxes, and drive efficiency in closing the books faster and improving revenue recognition accuracy.

If you're an experienced, detail-driven accounting leader who thrives in a fast-moving environment and wants to be part of a company that genuinely makes a difference, we’d love to meet you!

Responsibilities:

  • Own the P&L, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Lead the monthly close process, and create improvements to reduce DPO.
  • Work directly with the CFO and Board, preparing financial reports, cash flow analyses, and KPIs.
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition, moving them closer to precise monthly reporting.
  • Oversee audits, partnering with the external audit team and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Handle tax filings, payroll compliance, and regulatory reporting (local, state, and federal).
  • Reduce CFO involvement in taxes—next year, it’s all yours.
  • Ensure the organization is fully prepared for its first audit cycle.
  • Lead and mentor two in-house bookkeepers.
  • Collaborate with the billing team to optimize revenue cycle performance.
  • Be a trusted partner to the leadership team, proactively improving financial operations.
  • Implement best practices in financial reporting and revenue estimation.
  • Optimize Lightning Step and transition from QuickBooks Desktop to a more scalable system.
  • Drive cost efficiency while ensuring financial accuracy.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives, including onsite expansion and capital projects.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years in accounting/finance, ideally as a Controller or Senior Accounting Leader. CPAs are preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with healthcare finance, out-of-network billing, or insurance is a plus.
  • Comfortable adopting and optimizing financial systems.
  • Thrives in a small but mighty finance team, leading by example.
  • Passionate about working in a company that’s changing lives.
  • Loves accuracy, compliance, and financial reporting.
  • Minimum 3-4 days/week at their ranch in Canyon Lake, TX.

What You’ll Get:

  • Competitive Salary – Up to $150K
  • Meaningful Work – Help shape financial operations in one of the top-rated behavioral health facilities.
  • Close-Knit Team – Work directly with leadership, the CFO, and the board.
  • Growth Opportunity – Potential to expand into a financial leadership role long-term.
  • Benefits – Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid time off.
  • Subsidized Team Lunches – to encourage collaboration.
  • A Scenic Work Environment – A 70 -acre ranch setting, far from the corporate grind.

Why Join?

Our client is growing—and so will you. They’re expanding their residential and outpatient services, investing in cutting-edge behavioral health technologies, and building new facilities to serve more patients.

If you’re looking for more than just a Controller role—if you want to build something meaningful, be part of a mission-driven culture, and lead accounting at a fast-growing, outcomes-focused company, then we want to hear from you.
