4-day student contact school week with 164 day contract
General Description of the Position:
The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for evaluation, direct and related services as required to meet the district responsibilities under IDEA.
The SLP administers tests, interprets the results, and reports the findings and assists in making eligibility determinations.
The SLP is responsible for managing a caseload of 60 students who are identified as communication disordered only and supporting the case manager for students receiving speech services under another disability category.
Essential Functions:
1. Gathers and analyzes information about the student to develop an evaluation plan to address the speech/language issues.
2. Completes speech and language assessments using a variety of instruments.
3. Confers with multidisciplinary team members to share data gathered and assists team in formulating a care specific plan of evaluation and/or service.
4. Assesses and evaluates students' hearing and speech language development in relation to academic and behavioral needs using assessment tools, clinical observation and teacher/staff/parent interviews.
5. Analyzes results of the speech and language evaluation and incorporates the information into a synthesized report containing recommendations for school and home.
6. Responsible for scheduling eligibility and IEP meetings within timelines established by school, district, state, and federal requirements.
7. Facilitiates conferences with other members of the multidisciplinary team to share evaluation results with members of the eligibility team, IEP team, the parent, and the student, as appropriate. For communication disordered only students, is responsible for all required documentation, paperwork, and due process responsibilities in accordance with district, state and federal regulations.
8. Develops a speech (communication) and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) IEP for students and implements the IEP is in compliance with district, state and federal regulations and that the IEP is completed and provided to parents within the specified timelines by the district.
9. Provides direct and related services as determined appropriate by the IEP team.
10. Submits progress reports that contain objective data specific to the goals in the IEP within the required timelines established by district, state, and federal regulations.
11. Completes all special education paperwork and documentation within the timelines required by the school, district, state and federal procedures and policies.
12. Communicates effectively with parents, staff, and administration.
13. Attends and participates in school and district staff development.
14. Maintains knowledge of best practices and school reform initiatives in instruction and evaluation for students with disabilities.
15. Maintains knowledge of and follows district, state and federal special education regulations and procedures with regard to referral, identification, evaluation, placement and provision of a free appropriate public education.
16. Maintains therapy logs of services provided in accordance with services agreed to in the IEP. Provides the therapy logs on request of the school, district, and/or state and federal requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
Current TSPC License with SLP endorsement
Ability to evaluate speech and language problems and participate in determining the relationship of speech and language development to the student's academic and behavioral needs.
Certificate of Clinical Competence or in the process of attaining CCC's.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor if they are necessary for the scope of the job description or job evaluation tool.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent successful experience and training in delivery of speech and language services in school settings.
Bilingual knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge of Special Education eligibilities under Oregon Administrative Rules.
Working knowledge of individuals with Disabilities Education improvement Act regulations and procedures.
Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated ability to compose and produce concise professional documents.
Strong theoretical background in working with culturally diverse populations.
Ability to acquire and maintain a valid first aid card.
Ability to perform essential functions of the job.
