JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Instructional Assistant (Pre-School)
Responsible To: Classroom Teacher
Principal/Preschool Director
Basic Function: Participate as an integral member of the instructional program
including tutoring students, assisting in documentation of pupil
progress, preparation and organization of materials and
equipment, and/or instructing. Also, assist bus driver in loading
and unloading students, and pickup and delivery of students to
parent/guardian, etc.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Implement instructional techniques and learning activities as directed.
- Participate as an integral member of the remediation instructional team.
- Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
- Prepare and organize materials and equipment for instruction and instructs pupils individually or in small groups in the classroom or in other school/instructional settings.
- Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes. Distribute and collect workbooks, papers and other materials for instruction.
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
- Work with individual students or small groups of students in the classroom or the computer lab to reinforce learning of material or skills
- Assist with the documentation of pupil progress on a continuous basis.
- Perform health services, for which training will be provided, and attend to basic student personal care/hygiene.
- Assist in seating all students on the bus, as specified in State Transportation Guidelines, and ssist in supervising the loading and unloading of buses.
- Assist in the pickup and delivery of students from/to parent, guardian or authorized individual.
- Perform any other responsibilities as outlined in State Transportation Guidelines for students.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, program director, or superintendent.
Ability To:
Demonstrate competent language skills including ability to read and understand meanings of words and ideas.
Use computer operations/functions and standard office machines.
Communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
Use hands for simple grasping and fine motor manipulations.
Sit, bend, squat, crawl, climb, reach within the scope of working with young children or those with special needs.
Lift, carry, push or pull light weights, up to 50 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
48 college/university hours OR passing score on the Kentucky Para-educator Assessment
Program specific certifications/training, as applicable
Successful experience working with children, individually or in groups, preferred
Terms of Employment:
Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for classified personnel.
