What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian - Substitute position at DISTRICT WIDE?
Job Summary:
To clean and perform routine housekeeping and maintenance of district buildings to provide a safe and clean learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
1.Clean floors: vacuum, sweep, dust mop, wash, strip, wax, and buff.
2.Wash and clean windows, walls, chalkboards, trashcans, water fountains, and sinks.
3.Dust furniture, fixtures, and wood work.
4.Empty trash receptacles and pick up litter in and around buildings.
5.Clean and stock bathrooms. Change and clean shower curtains. Scrub and disinfect the shower rooms.
6.Maintain and clean displays, boards, artwork, frames, and displays. Perform light repairs as needed.
7.Provide setup and breakdown of furniture in cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, or other spaces for events.
8.Troubleshoot minor maintenance problems. Handle minor repairs directly. Refer carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs to maintenance staff as needed.
9.Assume responsibility for the closing of the building each day and for determining that all doors and windows are secured and all lights are turned off.
10.Maintain American flag on an as needed basis.
11.Do minor routine maintenance of electrical (replace light bulbs), heating and ventilating vents and fixtures (i.e. changing filters), locks (i.e. oiling) and lockers.
12.Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities by reporting known safety hazards in the school immediately to supervisor.
13.Monitor building and grounds to ensure standards for cleanliness and safety are maintained.
14.Provide routine grass trimming, leaf raking, and maintenance of planting beds on properties.
15.Remove snow from immediate walks and exits and add sand and salt as needed.
16.Available to support students and staff during evacuation drills and emergencies.
17.Notify supervisor when he/she may be away from the premises.
18.May be assigned to evening or day shift depending upon the needs of the employer.
19.Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job according to state, federal and Springfield District policies.
Supervision Received: Reports to, receives daily work assignments, and is evaluated by Physical Plant Supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory duties. May train or assist co-workers.
Qualification Requirements:

1.Education: High school degree, or equivalent, plus 1 to 2 years of relevant experience preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
2.Experience: Commercial cleaning experience preferred. Experience waxing and stripping floors, using a scrubber, floor buffer, commercial vacuum and other floor machines also preferred, as well as knowledge and skill related to routine housekeeping and maintenance work.
3.Language Skills: Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
4.Mathematical Skills: Good basic mathematical skills including ability to perform operations using units of weight measurement, volume and distance.
5.Reasoning Ability/Mental Requirements: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
6.Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals, including students, faculty, administrators, parents, and representatives of outside organizations. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and outside agencies. Ability to effectively resolve conflicts.
