Director of Athletics and Extracurricular Activities

BASIC FUNCTION:
The Director of Athletics and Extracurricular Activities is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the district’s athletic and extracurricular programs, athletic functions, athletic facilities, sponsors, coaches, and student participation. He or she is responsible for implementing and facilitating the objectives of the Bardstown City Schools' athletic and extracurricular programs. In collaboration with school administration, the Director of Athletics and Extracurricular Activities oversees all athletic and extracurricular programs to ensure efficient, well-managed, and effective operations of activities, events, and related athletic and extracurricular facility operations. In collaboration with school administration the Director of Athletics and Extracurricular Activities supervises and evaluates all district athletic and extracurricular sponsors, coaching personnel, and assistants. Performance of these duties requires full-time employment.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides leadership to the athletic department. Advocates for the proper function of athletics in the overall educational process.
- Facilitates a vision for the expanded student involvement in athletic and extracurricular programs and how this promotes overall success in school.
- Promotes all athletic and extracurricular programs in the school and community.
- Collaborates with the school administration in the selection, evaluation, and supervision of the coaches, assistants, and athletic trainers.
- Assists school administration in implementing and supervising extracurricular and athletic programs.
- Promotes and facilitates good sportsmanship and strong character..
- In collaboration with school administration, responsible for ensuring all coaches monitor applicable student academic eligibility requirements and sports safety requirements, including sports physicals, parent/guardian consent, and student accident insurance coverage.
- In collaboration with school administration, oversees the operation, maintenance, and scheduling of the athletic facilities at the school for the school and outside agencies
- Awareness of extracurricular and athletic budgets and support school administration in approval of purchases.
- Fosters good school-parent relations by maintaining communications for events, expectations for students, parents, and coaches, and rules and regulations.
- Assures compliance with the rules and regulations of the Kentucky High School Athletics Association (KHSAA).
- Oversees the paraprofessional and volunteer coaching staff to ensure that all KHSAA and district personnel guidelines are met (e.g. annual CPR updates, First Aid training, attendance at required trainings including Medical Symposia, etc.)
- In collaboration with school administration, administers Board policies related to athletics, including the random drug testing policy for student athletics.
- In collaboration with school administration, assures compliance with Title IX as described in the Title IX manual and KHSAA Guidelines.
- In collaboration with school administration, oversee school athletic and extracurricular budgets and expenditures.
- Develops and maintains a sound working relationship/partnership with community organizations and media supporting teams and individual student-athletes.
- In collaboration with school administration, oversees all extracurricular transportation and schedules
- In collaboration with school administration and applicable district staff, implement security and safety measures for all extracurricular events, including the creation of emergency action plans as required by law
- In collaboration with school administration, oversees the proper care and adequate inventory of all athletic and extracurricular equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
- In collaboration with school administration, ensures that adequate supervisory duties are performed at all events.
- In collaboration with school administration, evaluates all coaching and extracurricular staff.
- Maintains records of all compliance standards for students and coaches.
- Works with school administration and counselors to update and maintain information for the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse.
- In collaboration with school administration, addresses extracurricular and athletic complaints and resolves problems.
- Ensures the efficient and effective management of extracurricular and athletic sign-up operations.
- Performs all other duties assigned by the supervisor

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three (3) years of coaching experience and/or athletic director's experience
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification
- NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course
- KHSAA Sports Safety
