Salary: $50.00 Per Hour

Required: Successful completion of Interpreter Skills Test (IST) for education or comparable interpreting assessment.
GENERAL SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Educational Interpreter transmits messages via a language or code that best meets the needs of the receiver. The interpreter is expected to establish and maintain effective, appropriate working relationships with students, parents, and staff. The position calls upon the interpreter to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and discretion in performance of duties on an as needed basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Interprets communication between school staff/personnel and parents/guardians in a language or code that meets the needs of the receiver.
- Takes notes as appropriate to ensure accurate interpretation of information.
- Exhibits knowledge of the language and communication needs of the receiver.
- Exhibits knowledge of the unique nature of the educational setting when interpreting.
- Exhibits exemplary interpersonal skills in dealing with students, staff, and parents/guardians.
- Projects a positive image of the district to students, staff, and parents/guardians.
- Exhibits a collaborative attitude while acting in the role of educational interpreter.
- Participates in professional growth activities as appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality of information communicated and interpreted between school staff/personnel and parents/guardians.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma
- Successful completion of Interpreter Skills Test (IST) for education or comparable interpreting assessment.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English and other language(s) as needed to interpret communication between school staff/personnel and parents/guardians.

Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
