English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher

Reports To: Federal Programs Director

 

Job Goal: To provide English language development instruction as well as instructional guidance to teachers to assist students who are acquiring English as an additional language. The ELL teacher will work collaboratively with other instructional personnel, to meet the individual needs of each student. Required activities include planning and delivering lessons, collaborating with classroom teachers and specialists, administering formative and summative assessments, and completing documentation required for compliance.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree and possess a Washington State Teaching Certificate and endorsed in English Language Learner.
  • Knowledge, skills, and ability to lead implementation of research-based instructional strategies in English Language Learners.
  • Knowledge of English language acquisition and acculturation.
  • Bilingual fluency required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing (English and Spanish).
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively on a teaching team, coordinating student schedules and curricular objectives with regular education teachers.
  • Ability to use technology in a variety of ways.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and use assessment data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  •  

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on students and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Provide research-based instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
  • Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning.
  • Work with district staff to ensure English Language Learners are identified appropriately by the district.
  • Provide training and support in instructional strategies and program compliance for teachers and paraeducators working with English Language Learners.
  • Support teachers on the use of student achievement data for the purpose of informing future instructional needs and strategies.
  • Provide training on the WIDA assessment and program requirements.
  • Collaborate with staff to provide parent involvement opportunities for parents of English Language Learners in the program.
  • Collaborate with the building principals and ELL staff members on compliance of the program.
  • Collaborate with staff and administration for the purpose of planning and implementing educational plans for qualified students.
  • Collaborate with staff to provide appropriate instruction for ELL students.
  • Attend parent/teacher conferences.
  • Supervise ELL paraeducators in effective, efficient use of intervention strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
