Alexandria Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate EL Paraprofessional to provide academic, linguistic, and social support to students identified as English Learners. This position requires fluency in English, with Spanish proficiency preferred to support communication and learning when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support English Learner students in small groups or one-on-one to reinforce classroom instruction and develop English language skills.
- Assist students in understanding and completing assignments by adapting materials and providing additional clarification.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement instructional strategies and accommodations tailored to students’ individual needs.
- Build positive relationships with students to foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
- Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to teachers and staff regarding student development.
- Provide occasional language support (e.g., translating instructions or clarifying concepts) when Spanish proficiency is beneficial.
- Supervise students during non-instructional times, such as lunch, recess, or transitions, as assigned.
- Participate in relevant professional development and training sessions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or administration.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience working with children preferred but not required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Compensation: $21 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
