What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructional Assistant ESL - Title III Immigrant Liaison position at District Wide?
Contract: 180 Days / 7 Hours per Day / Instructional Assistant Salary Schedule
Reports to: Director of Federal Programs
Job Function: Serve as a Family/Home-to-School Liaison
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Provide translation services as applicable
- Assist with school enrollments by offering translation services and completion of required paperwork, including scheduling vaccinations
- Assist with organization and planning of English Learner (EL) events that occur on the first day of school, during open houses and back to school bashes, and for EL parent nights
- Assist the English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in maintaining records that determine academic and behavioral needs
- Make direct contact with families via phone, Remind or other messaging system, email, and in-person when applicable
- Coordinate bus routes and bus changes with the school and the transportation director or his designee
- Assist immigrant families with finding community resources such as doctors, dentists, local transportation, and affordable housing and shopping options
- Collaborate with Family Resource Youth Service Centers (FRYSCs) to find resources for students and families
- Assist classroom teachers in helping them to understand EL subgroup populations and their diverse needs
- Complete necessary training to assist in the administration of WIDA screeners and ACCESS testing
- Be available for phone calls during the school day to assist with emergency needs and enrollments
- Use grammatically correct language which includes age-appropriate vocabulary, first person language, appropriate tone of voice, and reinforcement procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of individual students and their families, as well as all student educational records.
- Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations including PBIS and de-escalation techniques. May require annual training and re-certification in safe crisis management. Complete all required yearly training.
- Maintain regular attendance. Report your absence to the supervisor and in the absence reporting system as specified by the district.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Preference given to individuals with bilingual skills
Minimum 48 college credit hours or successful completion of the Kentucky Paraeducator's
Assessment or completion of an Associates Degree
