JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB DESCRIPTION: The school nurse is responsible for carrying out the district's health program, as defined by district policies and the Missouri Department of Health regulations.
REPORTS TO: Principal
EXAMPLE (S) of WORK PERFORMED:
- Applies appropriate nursing theory as the basis for decision making in the school setting.
- Establishes and maintains a comprehensive school health program.
- Collects information about the health and developmental status of the student in a systematic and continuous manner.
- Uses data collected about the health and developmental status of the student to determine a nursing diagnosis.
- Develops nursing care plans with specific goals and interventions, delineating school nursing actions unique to students’ needs.
- Intervenes as guided by the nursing care plan to implement nursing actions that promote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness and effect rehabilitation.
- Assesses student responses to nursing actions in order to revise the database, nursing diagnosis and nursing care plan and to determine progress made toward goal achievement.
- Collaborates with other professionals in planning to assure quality of health care provided to students.
- Assists student, families and school personnel to achieve optimal levels of wellness through health education.
- Assumes responsibility for continuing education and professional development and contributes to the professional growth of others.
- Participates with others in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating school health and community services that include primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.
- Contributes to nursing and school health through innovations in theory and practice and participation in research.

Responsibilities are assigned upon employment. Work duties may be assigned verbally and in writing and involve on-going contact with supervisor. Employee in the position is evaluated annually. (Minimum)
