TITLE: Instructional Aide for Special Education/KERA Preschool Program
REPORTS TO: Principal/Collaborates with Teacher
JOB GOAL: To assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help students achieve and to help provide a safe and efficient environment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in recording student data for IEPs (Progress Monitoring) and other programs associated with the IEPs.
- Assist in promoting appropriate behavior patterns and habits.
- Assists in the construction and development of materials related to the learning processes for the students assigned to him/her.
- Assists in the instruction of small group, large group or individual child activities for enhanced skill development.
- Assists with feeding and/or supervision of breakfast and/or/lunch/snacks program to encourage independence of students at mealtime as well as to teach appropriate eating/feeding skills/habits.
- Assists students in curricular areas that take place outside of immediate classroom, including areas around school and off the school campus.
- Assists students when entering, riding, or exiting transportation vehicles.
- Cares for all instructional materials, supplies and equipment in the classroom and/or used by students. Provides for simple housecleaning activities on a regular basis.
- Assists students in self-help areas necessary for good student health and Hygiene, including providing assistance to student with toileting needs.
- Review safety conscious techniques at all times.
- Acts as playground aide when required by supervisor.
- Maintains good rapport with students, parents, staff and other professionals.
- Provides general assistance in daily activities in cooperation with the teacher and principal and performs such other related duties as requested by the teacher and school principal.
- May be required to become CPR certified with yearly re-certification.
- Assists students in health related needs as deemed appropriate/necessary by Supervisor/School Nurse.
- Assists and monitor students during gross motor development, such as during playground time.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must have the ability to sit, stoop, possibly lift up to 50 pounds or more.
- Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Satisfactory completion of State mandated health examination.
- Must satisfactorily complete the Paraeducator Exam.
EVALUATION:
- Performed annually by Principal in collaboration with Teacher.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Salary commensurate with the Russell Independent Schools Classified Salary Schedule.
