The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System:
POSITION: SPECIAL EDUCATION SUPERVISOR
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Education
- Minimum of three years teaching experience.
- Knowledge of Special education Regulations.
- Certification in Special Ed Administration
POSITION SUMMARY: The Special Education Supervisor works collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent to develop and monitor special education services across the district, implement processes and procedures to ensure compliance with DESE regulations, provide professional development for staff, and engage families.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent Special Education or designee
SUPERVISES: See description of Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish and maintain a continuum of programs and services for students with disabilities ensuring Fair and Appropriate Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
- Oversee all special education procedures, timelines and documentation to ensure compliance with DESE
- Educate staff and administrators on special education eligibility, disabilities categories and regulations.
- Review and sign all proposed IEPs ensuring compliance with DESE regulations
- Supervise Team Chairs, Special Ed Clerks and all Special Ed Staff in substantially separate programs.
- Provide regular consultation for special education staff and building administrators on best practices for instruction and intervention and monitor student progress.
- Collaborate with building based administrators on observations and evaluations of special education staff in the inclusion setting.
- Complete regular file reviews to ensure records are complete, accurate and organized.
- Oversee cases involving mediation and appeals process.
- Support Teams Chairs in manifestation determination meetings as needed
- Monitor discipline of students with disabilities
- Provide PD for new staff on using Special Programs in Powerschool.
- Collaborate with the supervisor and building administrators on recruitment, hiring, training, and staff assignment.
- Communicate regularly with families and stakeholders
- Run PLCs or special education department meetings
- Regularly observe students and programming across the district
- Attend building based staff meetings as needed
- Coordinate Safety Care training for staff
- Assist the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education with TFM reviews and site visits.
- Assist the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education with oversight of related services
- Proactively address interruptions of services & compensatory services, ensuring documentation, tracking and appropriate notification.
- Coordinate ESY programming with the supervisor team
- Coordinate specialized transportation
- Collaborate with community partners to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Assume any additional responsibilities and duties as deemed appropriate by the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education
The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification, such intent will be shared with the Fall River School Committee.
Terms of Employment and Salary: In accordance with the Fall River Administrators' Association contract. Continued employment is contingent on job performance, program needs, and funding.

Salary : $87,051 - $124,440
