Primary Purpose:

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) plans and provides speech-language pathology services to students with articulation, voice, fluency or language disorders.  Assesses student and provides therapeutic intervention to reduce problems or impairments that interfere with their students’ ability to benefit from the educational program. 

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Education: Master’s degree in Speech/Language Pathology (preferred)

Licensing: ASHA Certification of Clinical Competency

Texas Licensure as a Speech Pathologist

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Assessment:

  • Referrals and evaluations are done in a timely manner.
  • Assessment information relayed to parents in a timely, understandable manner.
  • Appropriate individualized recommendations are based on assessment data.
  • Appropriate goals and objectives developed for each student.

 

Consultation:

  • Possesses the ability to maintain communication with all educational professionals.
  • Possesses the ability to consult with parents about concerns for their children and to convey the need for assistance to the proper individuals.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist the teacher in special instructional methods and techniques and choose special materials for the IEP.

 

Program Management:

  • Demonstrate the ability to provide information to school personnel and parents that will facilitate understanding of the speech assessment/ therapy.
  • Demonstrates the ability to understand and interpret the school environment in order to implement a successful speech therapy program.

 

Therapy:

  • Implementation of appropriate plans for treatment for mastery of set goals
  • Collection and documentation of data, which validates progress toward goals

 

 

Communication:

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with groups or individuals in an effective manner.

 

Professional:

  • Observes professional ethics; works and co-operates with the entire staff; seeks, shares and respects ideas of others; refrains from revealing confidential information regarding pupils and their families. Conversations regarding patrons and staff are confined to an ethical level. 
  • Initiates activities to maintain professional competence such as staying abreast of current educational techniques, materials and methods.
  • Exhibits a professional and positive attitude in all interactions with all people and matters involved in schools.
  • Demonstrates interest in personal and professional growth by attending in-service meetings, workshops and conferences.

 

Administration:

  • Supports established administrative policies and directives.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.

 

               

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises Speech-Language Pathology Assistants/ Speech Intern CFY
