Custodian

Job Overview:

Perform various cleaning duties in assigned areas of the school in accordance with the Health Department standards and the Principal’s direction.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Ability to work after hours, over weekends, and on public holidays.
3. Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check.

Reports to:  Building Principal

Work Year: Calendar Year 

Salary/: $15.00 an hour

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cleaning and Sanitizing:
1. Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
2. Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and replenishing supplies.
3. Dusting and wiping down surfaces, including desks, chairs, and shelves.
4. Disposing of waste and recycling materials.
2. Maintaining Order:
1. Setting up and arranging furniture for events or activities when necessary.
2. Ensuring classrooms, offices, and common areas are organized and tidy.
3. Reporting any damages, repairs, or safety hazards to appropriate staff.
3. Grounds Maintenance:
1. Sweeping and cleaning outdoor areas, such as walkways and entrances.
2. Clearing debris from sidewalks and parking lots.
3. Keep drainage paths clear of debris (roof drains, floor drains, sewer drains, etc.)
4. Assisting with snow removal and salting/sanding during inclement weather.
4. Security:
1. Locking and unlocking doors at specified times.
2. Monitoring and reporting any suspicious activity.
3. Collaborating with other staff to ensure a secure school environment.
5. Equipment Maintenance:
1. Performing basic maintenance on custodial equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, floor buffers).
2. Reporting any equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to maintenance staff.
6. Collaboration:
1. Collaborating with other school staff, including teachers, administrators, and maintenance personnel.
2. Following guidelines and instructions from supervisors and administrators.
7. Health and Safety:
1. Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines while performing tasks.
2. Using cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety regulations.
3. Following proper procedures for handling waste and hazardous materials.
8. Flexibility:
1. Being flexible and responsive to urgent cleaning or maintenance needs.
2. Adjusting work hours or tasks as required by school schedules and activities.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

The physical and environmental demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

1. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
2. Ability to lift heavy equipment.
