Early childhood special education teachers work with students who have developmental difficulties, such as speech and vision problems, limited motor skills, sensory-processing difficulties, or special learning challenges. Students in these age groups may be newly diagnosed and the special education teacher plays a role in determining what services and accommodations they will need. Parents may still be coming to terms with their child’s special needs and will need support and advice. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate South Carolina Teaching Certification in Special Education

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administering special education testing 
  2. Evaluating special-needs students, determining skill levels, and functional capabilities 
  3. Modifying lessons and revising the standard curriculum to match the child’s functional capacity and accommodations 
  4. Co-teaching in integrated learning settings 
  5. Meeting parents and others to review goals and assess progress 
  6. Creating materials to assist in teaching 
  7. Helping children who need assistance with motor skills and eating/drinking 
  8. Providing an appropriate learning environment for students, such as those with sensory-processing challenges 
  9. Advising parents on how to work with their child 
  10. Instructing students one-on-one in imitation, repetition, and step-by-step problem solving 
  11. Completing evaluative and accommodation forms such as IEPs

1. Completed Application via Spartanburg School District 7 website at www.spartanburg7.org.

2. A 2-Step Tuberculin skin test that has been completed within the last year. This can be uploaded to your application or submitted to the Human Resources Department.
3. Copies of transcripts verifying your educational background. This can be uploaded to your application or submitted to the Human Resources Department.
4. Two (2) references that are familiar with your work performance (at least one professional). You MUST provide emails for your references via the application process.
