DEFINITION
Hudson Public Schools is looking for a Technology Support Assistant. This Position is responsible for providing first level client support troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues for staff, students and parents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Maintains the district hardware and software inventories
- Assists with creation of student and staff network accounts
- Assists with data integrity of the student information system.
- Creates parent accounts in the student information system
- Monitors and responds to parent emails submitted through the IncidentIQ account.
- Creates all students accounts including but not limited to our student information system, G Suite Workspace, Hawk domain, and Enriching Students
- Prepares and distributes student devices.
- Works with building principals/secretaries to recover lost and non-returned devices. Communicates with families to recover devices
- Issues invoices for lost student equipment in MySchoolBucks
- Prepares additional equipment and maintains inventory for loaned equipment as needed for State-wide testing such as WIDA Access and MCAS
- Organizes and prepares new devices for distribution.
- Organizes and prepares the collection of devices at the end of a lease cycle.
- Hardware and software installations.
- Provides technical support to staff and students
- Troubleshoots and researches computer software and hardware issues
- Assists with work requests via the RTS ticket system
- Department project-based work as needed.
- Assists with professional development for staff
- Performs other tasks as assigned by Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates degree in Computer Information Systems—Application Specialist or related field/subject
- at least 3-4 years prior experience in IT support.
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints
WORK YEAR:
- 12 months, 261 days, 7.5 hours/day
- 3 personal days, 12 sick days, 15 vacation days prorated pursuant to date of hire

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Under general supervision the employee is familiar with the work routine and uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently with specific instruction. The supervisor provides additional, specific instruction for new, difficult or unusual assignments, including suggested work methods, and helps prioritize work. The employee refers unusual situations to the supervisor for advice and further instructions.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The nature of work assures that errors are usually detected in succeeding operations. Consequences of errors, missed deadlines or poor judgment may include time loss caused by back checking by others and slowdowns in the processing of the work, such as department-wide printing or individual PC functioning. Errors are generally confined to a single individual or department.
JUDGMENT
The work requires examining, analyzing and evaluating facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems, situations or transactions, and determining actions to be taken within the limits of standard or accepted practices. Guidelines include a large body of technical practices and precedents which may be complex at times. Judgment is used in analyzing specific situations to determine appropriate actions. Employee is expected to weigh efficiency and relative priorities in conjunction with procedural concerns in decision making and consult with Supervisor before any decisions are made.
COMPLEXITY
The work consists of the practical application of a variety of technical concepts, practices and specialized techniques. Assignments typically involve evaluation and interpretation of factors, conditions or unusual circumstances; inspecting, testing or evaluating compliance with established standards or criteria; gathering, analyzing and evaluating facts or data using specialized fact finding techniques; or determining the methods to accomplish the work.
NATURE AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
Relationships are primarily with students, parents, staff and co-workers involving frequent explanation, discussion or interpretation of practices, procedures, regulations or guidelines in order to render service, plan or coordinate work efforts, or resolve operating problems. Many times translation skills are needed to effectively communicate with students and parents. More than ordinary courtesy, tact and diplomacy may be required to resolve complaints or deal with hostile, uncooperative or uninformed persons.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Incumbent has regular access at the district level to a wide variety of confidential information, including student record information (special education status, low income status, discipline records, health information, and student grades).
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS
Knowledge: Knowledge of MS Office and G Suite applications. Knowledge of a variety of systems not limited to Aspen Student Information System and G Suite Admin Console. Knowledge of Windows 8 and 10; familiarity with Chromebook OS, Macintosh OS and Apple iOS technology as well as word processing, spreadsheet and email applications.
Abilities: Ability to multitask and work under pressure to meet simultaneous deadlines. Ability to take initiative, think and develop strategies to improve processes or end user productivity. Ability to prioritize tasks and work under deadline. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Language Skills: Primary Language: English. Secondary speaking language: Portuguese and/or Spanish.
Skills: Excellent research and troubleshooting skills. Strong communication and customer service skills. Orientation to detail. Excellent organizational skills. Interpersonal skills as this position works with all levels of the organization.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. Incumbent may be required to work beyond normal business hours in response to emergency situations.
PHYSICAL, MOTOR, AND VISUAL SKILLS
Physical Skills
Work is typically in an office setting, involving sitting, with intermittent periods of stooping, climbing, walking, stretching and standing. May require some agility and physical strength, such as moving hardware within or between buildings, or working in awkward spaces. Occasionally, work may require lifting heavy objects and carrying them (up to 50 lbs.). There may be need to stretch and reach to retrieve materials.
Motor Skills
Duties may involve assignments requiring application of hand and eye coordination with finger dexterity and motor coordination.
Visual Skills
Visual demands require inspecting hardware, cables, and other devices, as well as routinely reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes (hard copy and via computer screen).

While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
