QUALIFICATIONS: State Certified School Psychologist
M. S. degree and graduate training in School Psychology & Psychometrics
2-3 years of directly related experience.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Must have communication skills (oral, written or business). Basic communication skills to
exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and response to inquiries. This includes filling out forms.
2. An incumbent in this position will utilize discretion, ingenuity and independent judgment due to the complexity of the job. Since there may be several ways to solve a problem, an incumbent is free to choose the solution.
3. Must have good customer service/people skills to work with the school, families of students and medical professionals. It requires following safety guidelines and policies in order that students and others including self are protected from accident or injury. It requires following school dress standards, proper attendance or leave policies and other work-habits concerns. Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving are critical to the success of the position.
4. Performs complex computation requiring skill in higher level college math and statistics.
5. Reads and interprets routine to complex written or printed materials such as medical records/charts, diagrams, instruction material.
6. Uses business machines that can be easily learned from simple manuals or simple verbal
instructions. May on occasion use more difficult machines without any proficiency required,
such as data entry.
7. Responsible for filing and retrieving from an existing filing system.
8. Uses tools or equipment other than keyboards or office machines with expertise acquired
through extensive experience and/or specialized training. Such tools include intelligence and
achievement testing instruments.
9. Assists in the identification and initial referral of students with suspected disabilities. Performs psycho-educational assessment.
10. Participates in comprehensive staffing. Coordinates the information flow from the department to other appropriate service providers.
11. Discharges liaison services to receiving school districts or treatment facilities.
12. Prepares comprehensive psycho-educational reports.
13. Makes recommendations for intervention and acts as an IEP team member. Attends categorical eligibility that involves presentation of evaluation results.
14. Consults and instructs school personnel and parents in the therapeutic management of
students.
15. Maintains confidential records. Provides documentation of progress and prepares evaluation.
16. Consults with physicians, hospitals and other medical personnel regarding the needs of students with disabilities.
17. Provides formal/informal in-service to administrators, parents and teachers.
18. Travels to the various sites to provide services.
19. Attends necessary workshops and continuing education to maintain certification. Adheres to the standards according to the IDEA Amendments of 1997.
20. Maintains appropriate emotional control, physical health and personal appearance.
21. Maintains confidentiality.
22. Abides by all district, federal and state laws, policies and procedures.
23. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to routinely and continually bend, squat, sit, stand, walk, or climb stairs.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
