What are the responsibilities and job description for the Athletic EMT or Certified Athletic Trainer position at District?
JOB SUMMARY:
Prepare athletes for practice and competition, evaluate injuries; develop injury prevention and conditioning programs; design/implement rehabilitation programs for injured athletes; provide first response to acute and catastrophic injuries.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership in the prevention of athletic injuries; educate and counsel student athletes, parents and faculty on health issues.
- Evaluate, assess and treat injuries that occur to student athletes and faculty members; recognize injuries and/or illnesses and include treatment of injuries with therapeutic modalities including but not limited to heat, cold, electricity, light according to NATA standards.
- Design and implement rehabilitation programs for injured student athletes and faculty.
- Provide immediate care for injured student athletes, both acute and catastrophic.
- Design and implement reconditioning programs for injured student athletes; design off-season weight lifting programs.
- Provide determination when or if an injured athlete can return to practice or competition in conjunction with team physician.
- Contact parent or guardian when a child is injured; discuss options for treatment.
- Compile and maintain files for all injury reports, evaluation, prescriptions, injury treatments and school insurance claims.
- Evaluate environmental conditions to ensure that conditions are safe for practice, including but not limited to heat, humidity and lightning.
- Ensure proper fitting of mandatory athletic equipment, protective braces and padding.
- Schedule and assist with athlete’s pre-participation physicals. Maintain accurate and up to date file on all student athletes in grades 7 through 12.
- Order and maintain medical supplies for the training room.
- Maintain current ATC Certification.
- Prepare, in conjunction with School District Physician, Current “standing orders” document for partnership with Physician’s office.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Student Activities Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Some experience in athletic training, preferable in public education required
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Knowledge of human anatomy/physiology
- Certification in first aid/CPR/AED
- Certification in N.A.T.A.
- Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
- Submission of required clearances for work in PA piblic education
