What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety and Compliance Trainer position at District?
SUMMARY: Under close supervision, assists with the initial training for new school bus drivers, in preparation for the Commercial Driving Test. Assists with training for currently licensed school bus drivers.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Develops and implements a training program for initial and annual bus driver training which meets and maintains the minimum training requirement for bus driver certification.
- Develops or procures curriculum for required classroom training. Conducts periodic evaluation of training program and modifies program as needed.
- Ensures each driver successfully completes at least the minimum number of classroom training and behind-the-wheel training hours. Provides remedial trainings to driver(s), as required.
- Provides transportation coordinator with documentation of all trainings provided.
- Assists with the enforcement of all bus regulations and emergency procedures set forth by the District and state.
- Operates bus to pick up children and deliver them to assigned school. Transports students from school to designated bus stops. Updates route card as needed.
- Maintains logs of daily mileage to include regular routes and extra duty activity routes.
- Advises students and other passengers of appropriate behaviors to reinforce guidelines and maintain passenger safety.
- Cleans, washes, and maintains school bus. Completes route reports.
- Performs daily inspection of bus for damage, properly functioning safety features, or needed maintenance.
- Reports observations, incidents, accidents, and inappropriate behaviors exhibited by students. Submits information to appropriate personnel.
- Transports students to various field trip locations and/or athletic events as assigned.
- Obeys all traffic laws and observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Explains and demonstrates evacuation procedures to students in accordance with safety training.
- Maintains communication with dispatcher in a professional manner. Notifies dispatcher immediately in case of mechanical failure or tardiness.
- Collects student personal items left on the bus and returns to appropriate staff member(s).
- Attends mandatory in-service and training meetings.
- Completes other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; AND two (2) years of Commercial driving experience and successful completion of required training; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Required License and Certification:
- Arizona Commercial Driver’s License.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Arizona School Bus Driver Certification.
- Arizona Department of Transportation, Student Transportation Department, Behind the Wheel and Classroom Instructor License
Required Knowledge of:
- District and Department policies and procedures.
- Arizona School Bus Minimum Standards.
- School bus safety requirements and features.
- Principles and procedures of recordkeeping, reporting, and retention.
Required Skills in:
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff.
- Working independently with little or no supervision.
- Driving a vehicle safely and abiding by set traffic law.
- Working with school age children.
- Practicing methods involved in providing quality customer service.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Work is performed in an outdoor environment and within a bus vehicle.
- Work may involve lifting and carrying objects weighing as much as 75 pounds up to 50 yards as a regular part of the job. Exposure to noise; contact with employees, students and the public.
