Job Title:  Summer School Migrant Supervising Teacher

Date:  03-11-25

Office Hours:  8:00 AM – 3:00 PM  Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday  $48 per hour

June 24th-July 31st

Job Description    

 

DESCRIPTION:  The primary role of the migrant supervising certificated teacher is to maximize each migrant student’s potential.  This embraces all facets of the student’s environment; his or her home, family, school and community.  Combined with information from other disciplines and agencies, the summer school migrant supervising teacher attempts to provide a sound education experience for all migrant students.  This individual will work to help close the achievement gap for migrant students who are not at grade level and will also ensure there are extended academic enrichment activities.  The migrant supervising teacher will assist with course objectives and outlines for the course of study which needs to follow curriculum guidelines and requirements of the Common Core State Standards and the school district. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate
  2. Knowledge of migrant student challenges and life styles. Knowledge of grade level curriculum, as well as instructional skills and strategies:
  3. Instructional skills
  4. Classroom management
  5. Interest in teaching pupils
  6. Handling of student discipline and attendant problems
  7. Preparation and scholarship/knowledge of subject matter
  8. Effort toward improvement when needed
  9. Knowledge of current issues and trends in education
  10. Ability to conduct diagnostic/functional assessments as a member of a team
  11. Capable of providing teaching strategies to facilitate success according to individual student ability
  12. Gather and analyze data
  13. Evaluate program progress through student achievement
  14. Communicate effectively with staff, parents, students and agencies when necessary
  15. Demonstrate community awareness
  16. Promote team building
  17. Demonstrate Student Advocacy

 

 

Desired Qualifications

Bilingual in Spanish

Experience with and/or knowledge of the unique needs of Migrant students.

Summer School Director/Supervisor

 

Supervises:

Migrant Paraeducators

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervise the migrant paraeducators
  2. Assign lessons, correct papers
  3. Model strategies to paras and teachers to assist identified subgroups of students.
  4. Teach rules of conduct
  5. Discuss pupils’ academic and behavioral attitudes and achievement with parents, teachers and parents
  6. Collect attendance, grade records, time-lines and attend virtual meetings and virtual trainings as required by district
  7. Administer tests, correct tests and record results
  8. Other duties deemed necessary and appropriate as assigned by the supervisor

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Teaching/Supervising assignment will be determined by the Summer School Director

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, lift, carry, move about, hear and speak. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning.  It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.

 

The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
