Western School District is seeking a Technical Services Director.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Technical Services Director provides vision and leadership for the District's technology systems. Plans, organizes, and directs the design, development, acquisition, and implementation of District technology and information systems to meet current and future technology needs while supporting the District's primary goals, objectives, operating plans, and policies. Organizes assigns, and directs the work of technical staff, including coaching/mentoring, evaluating performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Performs other supervisory responsibilities. Leads and coordinates Technology Department projects. Ensures technical support for the efficient operation of all District technology and information systems to provide maximum resource availability to all users.

  • The Technology Services Director reports to the Director of Operations and Technology and/or Director of Programs.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Technology Department and the District concerning technology and information systems in collaboration with the District Administration and develop short and long-term goals, objectives, and strategies related to technology and information systems.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, direction, and support to both network and non-network-related personnel and contracted vendors; plan and organize, assign, and delegate work; evaluate work for appropriate solutions, effectiveness, and efficiency; ensure compliance with Department/District policies, procedures, and standards. 
  • Provide technical training and instruction for Department personnel to maintain and enhance knowledge and skill.
  • Establish policies, procedures, and work standards for the Technology Department.
  • Ensure a reliable and secure technology infrastructure that meets current and future District technology and information system needs.
  • Consult with District Administration to determine department information and technology requirements and priorities; provide the necessary resources to evaluate, install, maintain, and upgrade system applications and meet District needs.
  • Direct the continuing review of present technology and information systems; determine appropriate changes to effect improvements, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency; implement changes within the limits of District resources.
  • Direct technical support for student information systems, personnel, accounting, confidential record maintenance, and related compliance functions.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage projects, programs, activities, and events as needed or assigned.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for information technology products and services.
  • Participate in developing plans, documents, and filings focused on attaining grants and funding provided by private and governmental entities, including but not limited to Universal Service Funding and others.
  • Develop and review Department policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Participate in the development of Department and District technology-related goals and objectives.
  • Engage in ongoing education to maintain and enhance professional competence, knowledge, and skills and determine best practices to perform all assigned responsibilities effectively; maintain an updated understanding of statutes, regulations, and standards in information technology services.
  • Attend information technology meetings and conferences at the county and state levels.
  • Exercise appropriate discretion in the protection and release of confidential information.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the supervisor/Superintendent.
  • This position has supervisory responsibilities.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents or employees.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships, demonstrate customer service skills, and function in a professional manner.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and maintain a calm and professional demeanor.

 

RECOMMENDED EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in computer science, information technology, or related area of an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • MSBO CTO certification is preferred or willing to obtain.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for long periods and use hands to handle or feel, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee

must occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job

include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, primarily due to concentration on a computer

screen and small numbers. While performing the job duties, the employee must

travel to other buildings and locations using their own transportation.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Occasionally, attendance at evening and weekend meetings may require the ability to respond to school requirements at any time. The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

essential functions. The noise level in the work environment usually varies. Work is performed

indoors all year round, with occasional outdoor work. 

 

TERMS of EMPLOYMENT/COMPENSATION: 

  • 52-week assignment
  • Salary commensurate with experience and education in the field of technology

  • Regular, in-person attendance is an essential job function.
