Position - Scrum Master
Location - South San Francisco, CA ( 3 Days a Week Onsite Working)
Job type : - Fulltime
Job Responsibilities
Facilitating Scrum / Team Events : Responsible for ensuring that all Scrum / Team events (such as Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives) are properly planned, organized, and facilitated.
In a SAFe setup :
Prepare for PI Planning : SM / Release Train Engineer (RTE) / Coach facilitates the team in creating a draft PI plan, identifying ART risks and issues.
Support PI Planning : Collaborate with other SM / Coaches and the Release Train Engineer (RTE), working actively with the team during PI planning to achieve successful execution of the event.
Support the ART in delivering value : Coordinate with other teams and work within the ART's cadence
Coaching and Guiding the Scrum Team : Provide guidance and support to the Scrum Team, helping them understand and implement Scrum practices and principles. Assist the team in self-organization, cross-functionality, and achieving their goals.
Find the right way of working for the team. Support the team in developing and enforcing lightweight, agile rules such as Scrum, Built-In Quality practices from Extreme Programming (XP), Work in Progress (WIP) limits from Kanban, and any other process rules the team has agreed on
Promote quality practices and provide guidance in constantly improving the quality of team deliverables and meeting the Definition of Done (DoD)
Coach the Squad on the importance of documenting and communicating key decisions and making them transparent
Removing Obstacles : Responsible for identifying and removing any obstacles / impediments that hinder the progress of the Scrum Team. This involves addressing issues that impact productivity, coordinating with other teams or stakeholders, and ensuring a smooth workflow.
Promoting Collaboration : Foster a collaborative and empowering team environment, encouraging open communication, trust, and transparency. Facilitate effective collaboration among team members, stakeholders, and product owners to maximize the value delivered by the team.
Shielding the Team : Act as a buffer between the development team and external distractions, protecting the team from external interference and unnecessary disruptions.
Monitoring Progress and Metrics : Monitor the team's progress towards achieving Sprint goals and ensure that they are following the defined Scrum processes. Help the team track and interpret relevant metrics and data to identify areas for improvement.
Continuous Improvement : Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the team and organization. This involves facilitating retrospectives to reflect on past performance, identifying areas for growth, and implementing changes to enhance the team's efficiency and effectiveness.
Transparent : The Scrum master should be able to create an environment in the team where everyone is encouraged to be transparent. This helps in raising awareness of any topic that requires support, helps in identifying the planned vs actual outcomes and also helps in identifying any anti-pattern. The SM should also be open to feedback.
Servant Leadership : As a Scrum Master, you embody the principles of servant leadership. Support the team by serving their needs, facilitating their growth, and advocating for their best interests. Lead by example, demonstrating the values and mindset of Agile and Scrum.
Knowledge / Competencies
A deep understanding of the Scrum framework, its principles, values, and practices. This includes knowledge of Scrum roles, artifacts, events, and their interdependencies.
Familiarity with Agile principles and values that underpin the Scrum framework. Understanding the Agile mindset and its emphasis on collaboration, iterative development, and continuous improvement.
Proficiency in facilitating meetings, workshops, and discussions effectively. You should be skilled in various facilitation techniques that encourage participation, foster collaboration, and drive decision-making.
The ability to coach and mentor team members, product owners, and stakeholders in Agile practices and Scrum processes. This includes guiding individuals and teams towards self-organization, continuous improvement, and high performance.
Competence in resolving conflicts and addressing challenges within the team or with stakeholders. Able to facilitate constructive conversations, encourage open communication, and find win-win solutions.
Knowledge of relevant metrics and reporting techniques to monitor and track team progress, velocity, and other performance indicators.
Familiarity with continuous improvement practices, such as retrospectives, to drive team learning, adaptability, and optimization.
Proficiency in using Agile tools and techniques that support Scrum practices, such as Kanban boards, burndown charts, and collaborative platforms.
Understanding change management principles and practices to navigate and facilitate organizational transitions towards Agile and - Scrum. Share the knowledge and practices at the community of practice
Preferably have at least one Scrum Certification like scaled certification (SAFe 5, SCRUM Master), PSMI, AGILE PM, etc.
