Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for rendering professional nursing services to residents within an assigned unit/wing in support of medical care as directed by the medical staff. This includes supervising Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to ensure a high quality of care is provided to all residents of that unit.
Responsibilities include daily nursing operations of a specific unit/wing, performing nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of residents, checking each resident daily to determine status, ensuring residents reach their highest attainable level of functioning, preparing equipment and assisting physicians during rounds, administering prescribed medications, orally and by injection, providing treatments using therapeutic equipment, ensuring proper handling and storage of medications and controlled substances, observing resident reactions to medications and treatments, observing, recording, and reporting changes in residents' condition to supervisor and attending physician, maintaining resident's medical record by way of documentation as required by policy, providing education to residents and families regarding care, assisting in planning, supervising, and instructing CNAs, assigning daily work assignments to ensure positive outcomes for residents, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures, ensuring safe work practices are utilized, ensuring proper infection control techniques are utilized, participating in the Continuous Quality Improvement Program, reporting accurately to oncoming shift Charge Nurse regarding change in resident status and follow-up needs, completing performance evaluations timely for CNAs, coaching and disciplining CNAs as needed, ensuring personnel policies are followed, recommending staffing, equipment, and supply needs to DON, capturing charges for all supplies issued to residents on that unit, participating in care planning process, ensuring the Nursing component is implemented, respecting the rights of residents, coordinating with other departments, and taking residents to activities, etc.
Qualifications
A current license by the State Board of Nursing as an RN is required. The ability to lead and motivate subordinates is essential, as well as the ability to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change. A strong interest in providing a service-oriented approach to healthcare is also necessary. Experience in the long-term care setting is preferred.
