What are the responsibilities and job description for the Collections Clerk position at Diversified Members Credit Union?
Diversified Members Credit Union is looking for a Collections Clerk to join the Asset Recovery Team at our Clawson branch. This position will serve as a key member for managing and overseeing the collection of overdue payments, contacting customers regarding outstanding balances, and ensuring that collection processes are followed in a professional and timely manner. Additionally, you will make recommendations on actions that should be taken if loan collateral is in jeopardy, as well as notifying and reporting to management.
*This is an in-office position for the first 90 days and then will transition to a hybrid role (3 days a week in office).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process all correspondence for collections department, ensuring accuracy of work
- Create form letters, type labels, and provide general administrative support
- Maintain collection files according to department procedures
- Input data into the credit union’s collection system and generate reports as requested
- Respond to telephone calls regarding payment notices and delinquent accounts
- Mail delinquent payment notices, ensuring that credit union errors are detected promptly and corrected
- Provide members with a complete explanation of the loan’s status as requested
- Follow up on delinquent loans and make calls regarding payments
- Maintain a detailed written record of all communications made regarding the delinquency
- Route all payments to management
- Prepare information needed or required by collection agency or attorney, and post receipts from collection agency
- Perform skip tracing duties as required and directed
- Prepare reports as requested by management
- Prepare credit life and disability forms as needed
REQUIREMENTS
- 1-2 years of Collection Clerk experience
- Knowledge of Michigan collection laws preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Basic understanding of billing processes and collection practices
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Prior experience in customer service or collections is a plus but not required
