Database Administrator / Data Engineer
DTSI is seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) / Data Engineer who would be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the database systems that underpin our enterprise-level application. This role is critical for ensuring data integrity, security, and performance, in compliance with government regulations. Given the sensitivity of the project, the candidate must possess or be able to obtain the necessary government clearance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Data Needs Assessment : Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data storage, retrieval, and security requirements.
- Compliance Review : Analyze government regulations affecting data management, including data retention policies and privacy laws.
- Schema Design : Create efficient and scalable database schemas using MongoDB best practices.
- Data Modeling : Develop data models that support application requirements and facilitate easy data access.
- Sharding and Replication : Plan for database sharding and replication to ensure high availability and scalability.
- Database Setup : Install and configure MongoDB instances and clusters.
- Indexing Strategies : Implement indexing to optimize query performance.
- Caching Mechanisms : Integrate Redis for caching frequently accessed data to improve application responsiveness.
- Access Control : Set up role-based access controls and user authentication mechanisms.
- Encryption : Implement encryption for data at rest and in transit, following government encryption standards.
- Audit Logging : Enable detailed audit logs to track data access and modifications.
- Monitoring : Use monitoring tools to track database performance metrics such as query execution time, resource utilization, and connection pools.
- Query Optimization : Analyze slow-running queries and optimize them for better performance.
- Capacity Planning : Forecast storage needs and plan for future growth.
- Backup Strategies : Implement regular backup routines, including full and incremental backups.
- Disaster Recovery Plan : Develop and maintain a disaster recovery plan to ensure business continuity.
- Testing : Periodically test backup and recovery procedures to verify their effectiveness.
- ETL Development : Design and implement Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes for data migration and integration.
- Data Quality Assurance : Ensure data accuracy and consistency during data transformation processes.
- Patch Management : Keep database software up to date with the latest patches and updates.
- System Health Checks : Perform regular health checks and maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance.
- Technical Documentation : Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, schemas, and procedures.
- Compliance Documentation : Keep records required for government compliance audits.
- Cross-Functional Coordination : Work closely with developers, QA engineers, and DevOps to align database functionalities with application needs.
- Training : Provide training and support to team members on data-related issues.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Proficiency in MongoDB, including replication, sharding, and performance tuning.
In-depth understanding of data encryption methods and secure data handling.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain the required government security clearance.
