What part will you play?
The Senior Fabrication Technician is a position responsible for performing a wide variety of installation duties on technology projects primarily in our shop build environments. This position is primarily a shop position preparing for the actual work that gets done in our clients’ buildings. Some onsite work may be required on occasion. They need to coordinate with project management, and others to fully understand their role on specific projects. They interpret our drawing packages to create portions of the finished systems. This shop work can include any related AV technology and cabling.
What will you be doing?
Physical installation of a wide variety of technology.
Accurately cut cables for bench fabrication to assigned lengths. Sort and flag cut cables for rack lacing and/or shipment to project sites as directed.
Prepare and label cables for fabrication both by hand as well as by use of automated striping machines per Diversified standards.
Execute and test cable terminations for all Broadcast, Network and A/V connectors
Ability to read, create and understand cable wirelists as well as project drawings and documentation for cable fabrication
Responsible for “Blue Lining” project drawings.
Prepping and packing of racks for shipment to job sites.
Proficient at high density cable dressing such as patch panels and routers.
Ability to mentor and train associate fabrication technicians as well as fabrication technicians.
Preparation of equipment racks for staging of equipment, wire lacing including installation of power strips, grounding bars, jack-fields, etc.
Mount equipment into racks, terminate all wiring and connections to equipment as per the technical drawings
Able to read and understand functional design drawings as well as equipment rack diagrams.
Provide a consistent level of technical performance as well as flexibility in work schedule. This position requires periodic overtime and may require regular overtime for extended periods to meet fabrication deadlines
Able to build and wire custom panels from engineering drawings.
Fiber optic cable handling, installation termination and testing.
Maintain relationships with CAD and Engineering and provide feedback for efficiencies as encountered during fabrication.
Provide assistance and guidance to other fabrication staff to interpret drawings and enhance builds.
Maintain an organized work environment specifically orderliness and cleanliness of the shop and jobsites.
Responsible for maintaining tools and test equipment, materials inventories and keeping things clean, orderly and well documented.
Responsible for tracking, maintaining their personal licenses, certifications and qualifications. (some states have specific requirement in this area)
Maintain daily record of time worked on specific projects for timesheet entry
Complexity:
This level of technician will be responsible for performing tasks in shop with no supervision and will be able to lead small teams on builds. The ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal staff is very important.
Decision Making Authority:
This position will work completely independently and will escalate decisions when needed. In general the project manager, design engineers and a shop manager are available to answer questions and provide the needed direction on issues escalated.
Physical Working Environment:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee. The employee may be exposed to construction site conditions on a regular basis. Employee will be responsible for their safety while in a shop or on job sites and to comply with all safety regulations. Use of PPE is usually required on job sites. The employee can typically spend at least 50% of their time on their feet and be required to mobile around the construction site. The employee must have the ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs and lift and/or move materials up to 40 pounds in construction areas. The individual is regularly required to use keyboards, test equipment and controls required for SI installation projects. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth vision. When not on construction sites, the employee will experience normal office conditions and be required to use office equipment such as computers, peripherals, etc.
Travel:
This is a shop based role but occasional travel to jobsites may be required.
What do we require from you?
Education/Certifications:
At least Five years of AV or Broadcast Media experience is required
High school or GED equal
AVIXA CTS Certification (is strongly encouraged)
AVIXA CTS-I Certification (is desired)
Must have a valid drivers license and adhere to our insurance requirements
OSHA 30 Certificate preferred to obtain before field work. NYC OSHA30 is preferred.
Other relevant certifications may be required or preferred based on the technology focus of the position.
Required/Desired Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Familiarity with a wide range of audio, video and networking equipment
Ability to understand and interpret AV project drawings
Knowledgeable of low voltage electrical concepts
Possess basic carpentry and/or installation skills
Good verbal communication skills and good customer service skills.
Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve technical problems
