What youll do:
The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating transportation operations. Their primary role is to ensure efficient and effective movement of material from one location to another in a safe and compliant manner. This position will provide leadership and solutions for our team(s) and will maintain a regular interface with their direct report(s) and all team members. The position works closely with the Transportation Management Team as well as our Plant Operations, Supply Chain and Customer Success Management teams. This position reports directly to the Director of Logistics.
Location: The person in this role will be required to live in the Midwest region of the United States (states within consideration are - IL, IN, MI, MN, OH, PA, VA), as they will be managing locations in that region. Ideal candidates will be near one of our sites of operation they will partner with.
Travel: Up to 25% travel annually is required
Responsibilities:
- Compliance Management: Develop, maintain, and execute driver compliance programs, ensuring all regulatory requirements are proactively met ahead of deadlines
- Fleet & Route Optimization: Develop site-specific route plans to maximize fleet efficiency and optimize driver staffing; oversee vehicle scheduling and driver management
- Driver Performance & Staffing: Create driver-specific route plans and performance goals while maintaining a driver staffing matrix
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Design and maintain transportation KPIs and weekly dashboards to track efficiency, cost savings, and service improvements
- Cost & Financial Alignment: Partner with FP&A to analyze excess spend, uncover savings opportunities, and recommend cost-reduction strategies
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong relationships with Transportation leadership to drive process improvements and operational efficiencies. Collaborating with internal departments, external partners and customers to understand transportation needs and address any issues or concerns
- Strategic Planning: Assist in developing and implementing strategies and policies to improve safety culture, optimize efficiency and reduce cost
- Budgeting and Cost Control: Managing transportation budgets, monitoring expenses and identifying opportunities
- Team Leadership: Managing a team, exempt and non-exempt employees, by providing guidance, training and performance reviews to maintain positive employee relations at our facilities.
- Continuous Improvement: Identifying areas for process improvement and implementing changes to enhance transportation performance
- Technology Integration: Utilizing transportation management systems (TMS) and other technology solutions to streamline, automate and improve our overall operations
What were looking for:
- H.S. diploma/GED required
- Bachelor's degree in business, Logistics, Supply Chain preferred
- Five (5) years or more relevant experience in supply chain, logistics, warehouse or industry related field required
- Five (5) years or more managing, leading and developing direct reports required
- Two (2) years or more profit & loss responsibility preferred
- Hands on experience with transportation management systems software such as WMS, WMOS, TMS, and/or OMS is preferred
- Ability to effectively manage Profit & Loss statements
- Proven ability to develop and implement equipment cycle planning, policies, and training programs
- Strong data analytics and financial analysis skills, with experience optimizing transportation performance
- Ability to work independently and manage projects with minimal supervision in a remote/hybrid environment
- Experience with ERP systems, routing software, and transportation management systems (TMS)
