Employment Status: Full time (40 hrs/week), position is structured in a way that part-time candidates will be considered(15-20 hrs/week) 


Schedule: Hours may vary based on youth ministry needs, meetings, and events. Duties require regular evenings and weekend work.

Position Summary:

Divine Grace Parish Youth and Young Adult ministry is based on the USCCB document, Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry. The Youth Minister should be a person who exhibits a strong Christian character that demonstrates a close relationship with God through personal devotion, worship, and prayer. He/she must have a solid understanding of the foundation of the Catholic faith with a strong desire to nurture young people in this faith. This person needs to work cooperatively with the Pastor, the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Director of Evangelization and Catechetical Ministries, and other members of the parish and diocesan staff. Position will primarily be based out of the Holy Redeemer church site and parish offices. 


Position Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, responsible for evolving and implementing parish youth program curriculum. Position is collaborative with Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult ministry. Duties and responsibilities can be reassigned/added/shared between these two roles based upon the strengths of the applicant.

  • Assists the Coordinator to prepare a yearly calendar and budget for the program.
  • Request assistance from local businesses, and organize fundraisers for the youth program.
  • Plan and coordinate weekly high school youth ministry events at Holy Redeemer site
  • Plans and coordinates Edge Sessions for grades 6-8 
  • Assists the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry in the confirmation prep process including administrative and liturgical work
  • Actively recruits adults and young adults as speakers, Core Members, and meal team volunteers, and assists Coordinator with training of Core Members.
  • Acts to build and maintain quality relationships with parents by sharing the vision of the ministry, so they understand its purpose and direction.
  • Communicates with the Safe Environment Coordinator to ensure all volunteers are in good standing and up-to-date on certification.
  • Determine with the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry which summer events to plan, advertise and attend each year (Fall Retreat, Spring Overnight, Steubenville Youth Conference, Catholic Heart Work Camp, etc).
  • Assists Coordinator of Youth and Young Ministry in planning/recruitment/chaperoning of middle and high school retreats (Fall Retreat, Spring Overnight, Steubenville Youth Conference, Catholic Heart Work Camp, etc).
  • Works alongside the Director of Evangelization and Catechetical Ministries on VBS by leading the Holy Redeemer Location VBS Week
  • Creates graphics to advertise and promote events on social media platforms (mainly Facebook and Instagram).
  • Participate in different aspects of parish life, such as being present at the at important liturgies, club/ministry events (Men’s Club super bingo, Fish Fry, Parish Festival), and local community events
  • Developing creative partnerships for service opportunities with parish ministries and other non-profit volunteer events in the larger community


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent certificate program, preferably in Youth Ministry, Theology, or related field
  • Experience: One-three years of service in youth ministry, preferably in a parish or educational setting.
  • Supports and adheres to the religious standards, policies and procedures of the diocese of Pittsburgh. Adherence to the Code of Conduct is mandatory
  • Must demonstrate ability to serve collaboratively with other members of the parish staff. Must be willing to communicate and coordinate with members of the parish community with whom one may interact.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Must have good written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to meet parish goals and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate to various levels of office staff, ministry leaders, parishioners and guests and work in a team environment
  • Punctuality and reliability are a must, as well as respectful interaction with other staff, parishioners and guests.
  • Hired personnel will serve a 90-day evaluation and probationary period.
  • Meet all diocesan employment requirements.
  • Provide proof of valid driver’s license and insurance, and possess reliable transportation.


Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee may occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level is low in the environment.
