Responsibilities:
As a Design Engineer, you will take the lead in creating custom lighting fixtures through detailed CAD design, CAM programming, and technical drafting. These responsibilities will be the majority of your role, as you transform creative concepts into manufacturable designs that meet both aesthetic and functional needs. You will also oversee prototyping and continuous improvement initiatives. Below are the key responsibilities.

- e detailed 3D models of lighting fixtures and custom parts using Autodesk Inventor (this is the primary CAD software used for in-house parts).Utili

- AM software to program CNC machinery offline, ensuring smooth translation of designs into manufacturing processes.Devel
- op technical drawings that adhere to strict manufacturing standards, providing detailed instructions for production.
- Technical Drafting & Standards Adherence:
- Draft precise technical drawings for all parts, ensuring that each component is manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligns with critical-to-function dimensioning principles.
- Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles to ensure proper tolerance application and functionality of parts.
- Ensure weld callouts and other manufacturing notes are accurately drafted and clear for the fabrication team.
- Prototyping & Design Verification:
- Oversee the prototyping process for each new fixture to verify the design’s performance.
- Conduct hands-on testing and make necessary adjustments to ensure prototypes meet customer specifications and quality standards.
- Problem-Solving & Innovation:
- Identify potential design issues or failure points early and recommend solutions or design modifications.
- Develop custom tools or processes that improve production efficiency or automation, reducing lead times and increasing output.
- Project Management:
- Manage multiple design projects at once, maintaining a keen eye on details, deadlines, and deliverables.
- Adapt quickly to changes in project scope or customer feedback, and remain flexible as requirements evolve.
- Root Cause Analysis:
- Analyze and address any design or manufacturing issues, identifying root causes and developing solutions to prevent future occurrences.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Contribute actively to continuous improvement initiatives, proposing ideas to optimize design and manufacturing processes for increased efficiency.
- Share innovative ideas that will help position the company for long-term success, ensuring that both the company’s designs and processes continue to evolve.
- Customer Collaboration:
- Work directly with customers, when needed, to transform their lighting ideas into manufacturable solutions.
- Clarify any design specifications and ensure that final products align with customer needs and expectations.
- Education & Experience: A Bac
- helor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field is required.Pract
- ical experience in a fabrication shop or with manufacturing processes is highly preferred.
- Expertise in CAD software (Autodesk Inventor is required for in-house parts; familiarity with other CAD software such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360 is a plus).
- Proficiency in CAM programming.
- Solid understanding of technical drafting practices, including the application of critical-to-function dimensioning.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and weld callouts is preferred.
- Familiarity with 2D and 3D fiber lasers, press brakes, punches, plasmas, and welding is a plus.
- In-depth understanding of materials, especially metals and sheet metal.
- ERP System Experience:
- Experience with ERP systems to manage and track project workflows, inventory, and production schedules is highly preferred.
- Communication Skills:
- The ability to communicate effectively and quickly across teams, ensuring that ideas, updates, and changes are shared promptly.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey design details to internal teams and customers.
- Key Traits:
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented—you will be managing several projects at once, and precision is key.
- A natural problem solver who can think outside the box (or get rid of the box altogether).
- Ability to rapidly prototype, pivot quickly when necessary, and adapt to ever-changing priorities.
