The Substitute Teacher

The purpose of the substitute teacher is one who takes an active role in ensuring that instruction and classroom procedures are facilitated in the event the classroom teacher is not present. A substitute teacher is responsible for teaching the students about the content and following the plans as outlined by the classroom teacher. A substitute classroom teacher will work cooperatively with all members of the teaching staff as needed and outlined by the classroom teacher and/or administration. Substitute teachers will be mindful of our mission that states we are providing excellence in education rooted in the timeless truths of God’s Word. Finally, substitute teachers will seek to make connections and develop relationships (whenever possible) with the students and school families that fosters a bridge to sharing the Gospel message.

• A desire to actively support the ministerial objectives of Divine Savior Lutheran Church and Academy.
• Exemplary Christian role model who lets his or her “light shine” when interacting with the DSA Family and the community.

Duties

As a practical definition, the substitute teacher:

• Replaces the classroom teacher on a short-term or long-term basis o Fulfills the objectives of the classroom teacher’s lesson plans.
• Executes the classroom management plan/procedure that is already in place from the classroom teacher.
• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior that are consistent with those set up by the classroom teacher.
• Keeps the grade book current and up-to-date to ensure accurate records and communication (long-term substituting only).
• Nurtures a positive school environment for our students and their families

Creates opportunities to strengthen the school culture of DSA by having open communication with the students and parents:

• Be responsible for the supervision of all children in the school.
• Being a positive communicator at all times
• Seeks to do ministry in all interactions with the students and family

Supports the administration:

• Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect student equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Keep the principal advised of all important classroom information, discipline matters, and departures from usual routines.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $34,000.00 per year
