This position is available within the University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology (DIT).
Position responsible for implementation, monitoring, and support of the University of Maryland wired and wireless networks. Provides support to UMD Faculty, Staff, and Students for connection to the edge network, including but not limited to providing assistance for jack activations, copper and optical connections, wired switch and wireless AP troubleshooting, DHCP and DNS services, VPN troubleshooting, and network infrastructure deployment and replacement.
The campus network is a converged network that requires disciplined support and a strong propensity towards IT project management. A good understanding of campus Network Operations Center (NOC) functions along with an expertise to utilize network management systems is critical. This position requires a valid driver's license.
This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.

Physical Demands
- Requirement to perform “on-call” duties required to maintain various networks.
- Some stress factors may be involved due to the nature of the operation and complexity of the duties.
- This job requires the ability to install networking equipment that includes climbing ladders, lifting network equipment (40lbs), working with hand tools, and accessing mechanical rooms.

- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive a vehicle.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience: Zero (0) years of professional experience supporting the operations, maintenance, and administration of information technology infrastructure.
- Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally, and in writing
- Ability to follow directions from more senior team members
- A demonstrated commitment to customer service
- Ability to deliver assignments on time
- Skilled in the use of office productivity software such as Office 365 or Google Workspaces
- Basic understanding of computer and networking fundamentals.
- Associate-level certification in networking.
- DIT will not sponsor the successful candidate for work authorization in the United States now or in the future.
