Summary:

 

Under the direction of the Early Childhood Education Coordinator, the Early Childhood Education Coach serves as the assistant program coordinator for the division’s preschool program including under the Virginia Preschool Initiative and early childhood special education. The coach serves as an instructional leader who is a leader in instructional planning and delivery processes, instructional coaching  and professional development.  Knowledgeable in current research best practices for supporting the needs of preschool students, the Coach also supports in the development of program recommendations, curriculum selection, and ongoing monitoring of student achievement indicators.

 

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to create lessons aligned to curriculum standards. 
  • Supporting classroom teachers in areas of instruction and behavior management through a variety of modalities including modeling and coaching. 
  • Deliver high quality research-based professional development to preschool staff.
  • Develop and implement intervention strategies for struggling students.
  • Support early childhood special education activities related to Child Find, eligibility, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) development. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of early childhood instructional best practices, curriculum developments, and assessment strategies.
  • Actively engage in a variety of professional opportunities that promote the visibility of the Winchester Public Schools preschool programs.
  • Support the completion of CLASS observations.
  • Collect, monitor, and respond to a variety of program data to support a process of continual improvement. 
  • Establish and maintain quality working relationships with a variety of community partners to support and expand offerings for preschool students and families. 

 Qualifications:

 

Endorsement in PK-3, PK-4, PK-6, or related area and Master’s degree with a minimum of five years teaching experiences required. Experience teaching in a public PK program,  prior instructional leadership experience with endorsement in early childhood special education preferred.

Duties may involve risk resulting from attending to students’ physical or sanitation/hygiene needs. Must be physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time;

exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal, and to perform; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

 

Salary:

 

Range based on the 2024-2025 Teacher Salary Scale is $53,000 - $82,843 per year with additional stipend for degree and pay for 10 extra days.  The salary may be adjusted with the School Board budget.

 

Workday:

 

Full time / 10 month/ 210 Day Contract/ Monday through Friday
