Summary:
The Special Education Specialist serves on the division’s special education administrative team to assist the Director of Early Childhood and Special Education, Coordinator of Special Education and other division administrators in creating, coordinating, and implementing special education regulatory activities and instructional programming for students with disabilities. Master’s Degree or other specialist-level certification required. Licensure in administration or direct leadership oversight of school-based special education programming preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises key activities and supports the implementation of the WPS Special Education Department strategic plan.
- Collects, monitors, and responds to a variety of program data to support a process of continual improvement.
- Collaborates with division and school-based administrators to support the special education programming of students with disabilities within Child Find, eligibility, and special education processes.
- Develops and implements comprehensive program support in key areas related to Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and key special education topics.
- Creates and oversees division management tools to support special education regulatory compliance and service delivery oversight.
- Provides mentoring and coaching to division staff in key areas.
- Facilitates regular special education staff meetings and professional development activities.
- Creates and leads specialized division teams based upon key areas, division needs, and implementation of the WPS Special Education Department strategic plan.
- Serves as a consultant to the division Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC).
- Serves as technical support for division IEP software program.
- Represents the WPS Special Education Department at the division, local, regional, and state levels.
Qualifications/Education and Experience:
License in special education required.
Salary:
Salary range for the 2025-2026 school year is $82,500 to $127,048; additional stipend for a doctorate degree. Benefits included.
