Summary:
An accountable Cashier is an upbeat, energetic team member with a positive attitude who greets students and guests in the college Campus Store. The cashier's primary role is to assist customers in the in-store check-out process. The main duties include ringing up sales, bagging items, collecting payment and giving appropriate change, stocking the front end and ensuring the store is organized and clean. The Cashier is responsible for counting the contents of the cash register drawer at the end of each shift, maintaining receipts, records, and withdrawals. The Cashier is also responsible for checking materials and supplies and reporting when stock is low.
The hours needed for this part-time position include Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Scan goods and ensure pricing is accurate
- Collect payments whether in cash or credit
- Issue receipts, refunds, change or tickets
- Redeem stamps and coupons
- Cross-sell products and introduce new ones
- Resolve customer concerns, refer complaints to the Store Manager, and provide relevant information
- Greet customers when entering or leaving the store
- Maintain clean and tidy store
- Track transactions on balance sheets and report any discrepancies
- Handle merchandise returns and exchanges
- Manage storefront stock
- Complete end-of-day procedures
- Stay up to date on all program start dates
- Maintain stock and fill vending machines
- Ensure that students and staff are treated respectfully and equally without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, age (40 or over), national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, childbirth, or pregnancy-related condition. Report all violations immediately to HR or Student Services
- Compliance with Dixie Tech Policies and Procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements and Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Proven working experience in retail cashier or sales
- Excellent customer service Skills
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Multitasking and time-management skills with ability to prioritize tasks
- Communicate face-to-face with students, patrons and guests with ability to exchange accurate information orally
- Eye for organization and tidiness
- Familiarity with cash registers and POS systems
- Good math skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google suite applications preferred
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
