DIY Media Group consists of some of the most respected brands in music, book, and video self-publishing and distribution. Our brands BookBaby and OnPress offer comprehensive book manufacturing and printing solutions. We utilize advanced digital printing technologies, including the Xeikon SX30000 and HP Indigo digital presses, and cutting-edge binding equipment from Muller, Kolbus, Digibook, and Meccanotecnica. Due to rapid growth, we're seeking a Mechanical Bindery Technical Operator to join our innovative manufacturing team.
Position Summary
The Mechanical Bindery Technical Operator will be responsible for supporting the setup, change over, troubleshooting, and operation of our high-tech book binding equipment. This role provides hands-on experience with advanced mechanical binding equipment, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency in a fast-paced book manufacturing environment.
Available Schedules
1st shift (M-F, 6AM-2PM)
2nd shift (M-F, 2PM-10PM)
3rd shift (M-Th, 9PM-7AM) - Premium paid for 3rd shift.
Key Responsibilities
Learn and perform advanced change overs of binding equipment (Muller, Kolbus, DigiBook, Meccanotecnica).Operation of machines between change overs to optimize Net Productive Throughput.Assist in the installation and calibration of new equipment to meet operational requirements.Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards in all operations.Work closely with the production team to provide technical support during shifts.Participate in training programs to develop advanced skills and knowledge of emerging technologies.Other Expectations
Meet attendance requirements including working the hours and / or shift assigned and beginning and ending work on time. Overtime may be required at times to meet shifts in business demand.Assist in keeping equipment and work area clean and hazard free.Always wear proper PPE and garments while working in hazardous areas or as instructed by standard work procedures and equipment manuals.Maintain courteous, professional and effective relationships with employees at all levels and work in a manner that is aligned with DIY’s company values.Must be sufficiently adaptable to accept and timely perform work assignments that are outside the normal (day to day) routine.Requirements : Experience
3 years hands-on experience performing tasks related to the “Key Responsibilities” section listed above.Technical Skills Preferred
Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.Experience with PLCs, sensors, motors, and automated systems.Knowledge of digital printing or binding equipment is a plus.Diagnostic tools and methodologies skill and development for both mechanical and electrical systems.Must be able to understand, read, write and orally communicate complex technical instructions in English. Must also be able to breakdown and explain complex technical matters in a manner understandable to all levels of the organization.Proficiency with MS Office Suite or similar preferred.Knowledge of and ability to apply basic safety rules and practices including LOTO.Previous experience with Lean and continuous improvement best practices a plus.Soft Skills
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.Ability to independently manage time effectively to prioritize tasks and effectively forecast repair and maintenance timelines.Physical Demands
Ability to lift and carry (short distances) up to 50 pounds.Ability to perform work using tools in and around equipment from all angles which includes, but is not limited to standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing, reaching, grasping, etc.Ability to see small details and defects of different colors with naked or corrected visionAbility to perform work wearing all required personal protective equipmentBenefits
