The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing core accounting operations and supporting the Controller in managing the financial health of the organization. This role supervises the Staff Accountant and is involved in payroll and commission calculations, financial reporting, audits, and ongoing process improvements. The Accounting Manager ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across day-to-day accounting functions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and taxes
- Supervise and support the Staff Accountant
- Prepare and manage payroll and commission calculations
- Assist with quarterly and year-end financial audit and the annual corporate financial controls audit
- Evaluate current practices and procedures and recommend improvements
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Ensure adherence to proper accounting procedures and alignment with financial objectives
- Monitor and analyze financial accounting data
- Create financial reports based on data analysis
- Perform ad hoc analysis and special projects as requested
Knowledge & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or MBA preferred
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a supervisory role
- Prior experience in a professional services firm (required)
- Proficiency in payroll processing and commission tracking
- Skilled in managing accounts payable and performing bank reconciliations
- Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Proficient in preparing journal entries, account analysis, and financial statements
- Strong understanding of intercompany transactions and consolidated financial statements
- Experience working on or through a private equity transaction is (a plus)
- Comfortable working with NetSuite and OpenAir (preferred)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements and automation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Team-oriented with a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mentality
