Overview
Our returning client has an immediate need for a skilled Landscape Manager to join their management team. The hired candidate will work in a hands-on capacity and will be responsible for overseeing landscape operations at properties located in Beverly Hills and Malibu, with occasional work at other properties as directed. This position reports directly to the Senior Facilities Manager and may receive additional direction from other senior managers. The Landscape Manager will occasionally work with the Principal, their family members, business associates, professional service providers, and various vendors involved with goods and services for the properties.
Primary Purpose and Function:
The Landscape Manager will manage the maintenance and overall health of the Estate’s grounds, including supervising staff, managing irrigation systems, and overseeing the care of ornamental plants, trees, shrubs, hardscapes, and water features. This position will ensure that the property’s landscape is maintained to the highest standards, contributing to the Estate’s beauty and functionality.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
- Landscape Operations Management: Oversee all aspects of landscape operations, including ornamental plants, trees, shrubs, groundcovers, grasses, soils, fountains, water features, and hardscapes.
- Plant Care & Maintenance: Manage soil preparation, planting, watering, fertilizing, trimming, and pruning of plants, trees, and shrubs.
- Irrigation System Management: Oversee daily work orders for irrigation adjustments and repairs. Ensure proper watering of all landscape areas.
- Lawn & Hardscape Maintenance: Ensure all lawns are manicured at the correct heights and prune/shape hedges to design specifications.
- Fertilization Program: Manage the application of fertilizers to maintain the health of plants, including interior and water plants.
- Pest & Disease Management: Oversee integrated pest management to control botanical diseases and pests, using organic methods where possible.
- Grounds Cleanliness: Maintain property grounds by managing debris, leaves, and ensuring overall cleanliness.
- Equipment Management: Maintain an organized inventory of all landscape equipment and supplies.
- Vendor & Contractor Relations: Cultivate relationships with vendors and contractors involved in landscaping and property operations.
- Meetings & Reporting: Schedule and attend meetings, provide status updates, and summarize key points and deliverables.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks as requested by the Estate Manager and Senior Facilities Manager.
- Occasional Work at Other Properties: Perform occasional duties at other properties as directed by management.
- Team Management: Ideal candidates must have experience managing a landscape team of 5 members, ensuring effective team coordination, and providing leadership to maintain high standards.
Skills, Work Habits & Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience managing landscape operations in hospitality or private estates is preferred. Experience managing a landscape team of 5 members is required.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a calm, efficient demeanor.
- Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with Google Drive, MS Excel, MS Project, MS Word, and OneNote.
- Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with discretion.
- Flexibility & Problem-Solving: Must exhibit creativity and problem-solving abilities when dealing with issues that arise.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage various relationships.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of OSHA standards and guidelines for landscaping operations.
- Professionalism: Demonstrated history of longevity in past positions with excellent references.
Physical Demands & Requirements:
- Ability to work in an active landscape environment across various properties.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and working on different surfaces such as lawns, concrete, and hardscapes.
- Must be able to use landscape ladders, tools, and equipment safely and effectively.
- Able to work in varying weather conditions and handle exposure to landscape chemicals.
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and be able to travel between properties using a personal vehicle.
- Though the typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, ideal candidates will have a willingness to provide limited on-call availability and responsiveness during non-business hours.
- Compliance with COVID-19 Vaccination Policy: Must adhere to the company’s vaccination policy.
