Position Summary
The Senior Tax Manager (FET) will work with DMA clients and lead FET Compliance responsibilities for US and Canada, conduct FET reviews for DMA clients for applicable jurisdictions including (FET Overpayments, Heavy Vehicle Use Tax claims, Power Take-Off Claims, FET credits and refunds) and provide other Federal/State/Provincial tax Consulting & Advisory services for DMA clients. Participates in business development efforts as required, and has account management responsibility for assigned DMA clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead Compliance services for DMA FET client opportunities including transition of new opportunities, registrations and licensing requirements, and identify potential obligations for clients
- Work with DMA clients to identify compliance process improvement opportunities and implement best practices for accurate and timely preparation and filing of FET returns.
- Reviews client records for Fuel & Excise Tax refund potential, credits, deficiency assessments, and procedural recommendations
- Prepares written reports supporting DMA’s position for Federal/State/Provincial taxing authorities; reviews and submits periodic status reports to clients; prepares Letters of Findings for clients
- Works with Federal/State/Provincial tax officials to achieve maximum tax savings
- Participates in business development efforts and identify additional service opportunities for clients
- Responsible for client account management on assigned clients
- Updates work-in-process reports for both clients and internal tracking
- Represents clients during audits and in hearings with Federal/State/Provincial taxing authorities
- Manages, coordinates, and reviews activities of team members
- Maintains excellent knowledge of Federal/State/Provincial Fuel & Excise tax laws, regulations, and court decisions
- Research complex tax issues related to Fuel & Excise tax in US & Canadian jurisdictions
- Assist business development team in scoping and developing customized FET solutions for new and prospective FET clients
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field required
- CPA (CGA, CMA, CA) designation preferred
- 7-10 years’ Fuel & Excise Tax professional experience, specifically leading FET functions or responsible for meeting client requirements
- Experience with Motor Fuels Excise tax reporting solutions such as Avalara/IGEN/AKORE etc.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Experience with Federal/State/Provincial Excise Tax for Canada and US
- Experience researching Fuel & Excise Tax questions and issues
- Demonstrated problem solving skills; intermediate verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and maintain exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to work in a hybrid work model with office days as required
- Travel as required (between 25-50%, approximately)
