DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a regional, integrated laboratory system providing services to the eight hospitals of Detroit Medical Center. DMC University Laboratories evolved in 1993 and is comprised of Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, two rapid response hospital laboratories, Centralized Stat Lab, Centralized Blood Bank Lab, and full service outreach infrastructure which includes patient service centers, remote ambulatory laboratories, marketing staff, courier system and billing department. The DMC University Laboratories service area covers the entire Southeast Michigan market, and is growing at a rapid pace with the following outstanding features: Test menu of over 1,000 tests, which includes high end specialty tests. Less than 1% of our tests are sent to outside reference laboratories. Provide reference laboratory services to many of the other healthcare systems in Southeastern Michigan and several out of state facilities.
Summary:
Under general direction and according to established policies and procedures, functions primarily as an alternate courier for designated routes and as a STAT courier. Assists with training on routes, performs dispatch and office operational functions and assists with scheduling/transporting vehicles for routine and emergency maintenance.
Assists in routine monitoring, reviewing, evaluating and optimizing of assigned routes.
Performs dispatcher duties, as assigned, such as answering calls, assigning STAT and will-call runs and identifying these runs on the route sheet.
May assume in-charge responsibilities, as delegated. Assumes the duties of a Courier, as needed. Picks up and delivers specimens, reports, supplies, equipment and other materials to designated sites and clients of the Detroit Medical Center.
Communicates with clients to resolve problems, verify accuracy of incoming and outgoing items, and responds to various client needs. Maintains vehicle, loads/unloads vehicle, and maintains daily route sheets.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must possess a valid driver's license from the State of Michigan and an approved driving record from Lansing.
3. Must be eligible and remain eligible for coverage as a driver of operating unit vehicles by the operating unit's insurance carrier.
4. Six to twelve months of related courier/driver experience.
