Chemist

OVERVIEW

DMI Companies is seeking a Chemist who will be assigned projects related to increasing revenues and improving profitability through proficiency in Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, and Cost Reduction (VAIO). The Chemist will oversee Quality Assurance for manufactured chemical products (including incoming raw materials).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Develop and implement New Products and/or product revisions that will generate new Sales Revenue and Contribution Margin (CM) for the company.
• Identify, develop, and implement Cost reduction opportunities throughout the product lines to reduce Product costs and increase Contribution Margins (CM).
• Take on Project Management Professional responsibilities: planning, scheduling, and leading Projects to successful completion with the guidance of the Engineering and New Product Development Manager.
• Provide support in Manufacturing Engineering techniques and principles related to equipment, products, and processes under his/her responsibility.
• Create a detailed scope and timeline for each project before executing.
• Help in conceptualizing projects originating outside of the Engineering Department.
• Help in developing goals for process improvements within the chemical department, as well as being involved in the implementation of these changes.
• Oversee the routine Quality Control testing inbound raw material and outbound finished product.
• Prepare sample batches of prospective or existing products followed by performing product analysis and performance testing.
• Maintain accurate and organized sample development and test documentation.
• Prepare drafts, or parts of a larger report, to assist senior scientific personnel in the group.
• Maintain inventory of perishable lab supplies and orders specific tools/instruments as needed.
• Be the technical expert for all laboratory equipment utilized in their area of responsibility.
• Must rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Will perform a variety of complicated tasks utilizing a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
• Must be able to work productively with minimal supervision.
• Complies with all environmental, health & safety regulations and practices good housekeeping duties.
• Corresponds with manufacturing personnel to provide support as needed.

EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

• Experience in performing ASTM and other standardized test methods.
• Project Management experience
  • Microsoft Project experience a plus
• Microsoft Office 365 knowledge preferred
• Knowledge of Lean and/or Six Sigma concepts
• Good communication skills (written and oral)
• Strong problem solving and organizational skills

EDUCATION

• S./B.A. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related scientific discipline preferred.
• Minimum 2-year degree in scientific discipline required with 5 years of Product Development Experience.
