Overview

The Safety & Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all health, safety, and environmental-related programs for the Wagoner facility with direction from the Corporate Safety Manager and Sustainability Managers. The incumbent is to ensure that the facility remains current and compliant with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards along with state and local safety and health regulations. This position will continually drive and support communication, education, and development opportunities as they relate to the safety and sustainability programs and policies to the facility at all levels while maintaining efficient and reasonable operating costs.

Principal Responsibilities

Safety

  • Follow and monitor for compliance all process and procedures in the DMI Companies Safety Manual
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all safety and sustainability related issues in the Wagoner facility.
  • Maintain OSHA compliance within the Wagoner facility.
  • Escort employees who must leave the facility for Safety related reasons using the Company vehicle.
  • Lead all Safety Committee tasks and action items, including but not limited to: Safety Shop Inspection completion, Safety Improvement Projects, Risk Assessment Reduction.
  • Provide a continuous presence on the production floor, drive Safety and Sustainability initiatives, enforce polices and intervene in unsafe activities.
  • Assist the Company with accident and workers compensation procedures, investigations, and related documentation.
  • Conduct weekly eye wash station, bench grinder, mechanical press inspections, and AED monthly inspections ensuring compliance and corrective action as well as completed related documentation.
  • Certify employees on forklifts in the Wagoner facility.
  • Ensure proper communication, library order, completeness, and filing of all Safety Data Sheets
  • Utilize corporate materials and display safety visual management (i.e. tv slides, signage, etc) as well as develop materials when needed.
  • Work with production Crew Leaders and maintenance on machine safeguarding improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Department to ensure LOTO instructions are up to date.

Sustainability

  • Manage data for waste disposal with regard to TRUE certification, electric and gas usage, in line with conservation goals to manage and reduce the overall carbon footprint.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to promote DMI's leadership in sustainability.
  • Identify areas for sustainability efforts and recommend to the Corporate Sustainability Manager strategies and initiatives for proactively addressing relevant sustainability issues.
  • Collaborate with Monongahela Sustainability Coordinator to implement a coordinated sustainability plan.
  • Measure and monitor progress against sustainability strategies, objectives, and performance targets, provide timely reporting of progress and recommendations to address any performance variances.

Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure DMI's compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Conduct periodic internal reviews or audits to ensure that compliance procedures are followed.
  • Conduct or direct the internal investigation of compliance issues.
  • Assess compliance or operational risks and develop risk management strategies.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree preferred.
  • Excellent project management, analytical and organizational skills. Able to manage different projects concurrently; deliver effective and consistent implementation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a good team player with a mature outlook who is also able to work independently. Able to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to create effective and new ways of working.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills enabling a clear presentation of issues and solutions.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of job assignments utilizing excellent time management skills.
  • Experience of working in business with an appreciation of the role that responsible business practices can play in creating positive social impact.
  • Proven ability to deliver projects from inception to evaluation, measuring and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of waste management, energy efficiency, renewable energy systems, water quality and management.
  • Strategic thinking.
