Truss Designer - Residential & Light Commercial Projects

Salary: Up to $90,000 per year DOE
DMS Building Components is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Truss Designer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing accurate and cost-effective truss systems for residential and light commercial projects. The ideal candidate will have previous experience with MiTek software, a strong understanding of structural engineering principles, and the ability to create detailed designs from architectural and structural drawings.
As a Truss Designer at DMS Building Components, you will play a crucial role in supporting the team with technical expertise, collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the efficient production of high-quality bulding components.
Key Responsibilites:
- Design accurate truss layouts for both floor and roof systems from architectural and structural drawings, ensuring compliance with relevant building codes and specifications.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to create cost-effective solutions and accurate designs tailored to specific project needs.
- Provide technical support to field staff and internal teams, addressing design-related issues and offering solutions in real-time
- Review and analyze project specifications, blueprints, engineered drawing, and associated components impacting truss design.
- Generate detailed cut sheets, layout sheets, and truss engineering reports for production.
- Ensure designs are constructible, adhering to field requirements, and aligning with the client's vision.
- Other duties as assigned based on project requirements.
Qualifications:
- MiTek Software Experience: Proficiency in MiTek software is a must.
- CAD & Construction Knowledge: Strong foundation in CAD design and construction techniques, especially in truss and structural component design.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Ability to ready and understand blueprints, technical specifications, and engineering drawings.
- Code & Load Requirements: Solid understanding of building codes, load requirements, and applicable engineering principles.
- Structural Design Knowledge: Familiarity with wood framing, structural components, hold-downs, and other elements typical in wood-framed buildings.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in complex design scenarios.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to clearly explain design concepts to both customers and team members.
- Math & Visualization: Strong mathematical skills and the ability to visualize designs in three dimensions.
- Customer Service: A customer-first mentality with the ability to address inquiries and provide solutions in a timely manner.
