Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Certified Compounding Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing customized medications through the compounding process, following strict regulatory and safety protocols, and providing exceptional service to our patients. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of pharmacy compounding procedures, possess a valid certification, and demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare Compounded Medications: Accurately compound medications according to physicians' prescriptions and applicable compounding formulas, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and precision.
- Adhere to Regulatory Standards: Comply with all state and federal pharmacy regulations, including USP <797> and USP <800> guidelines for sterile and hazardous drug compounding.
- Quality Control: Perform thorough quality checks on all compounded medications, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and dispensing procedures are followed.
- Inventory Management: Manage and maintain inventory of compounding ingredients and equipment, ensuring all supplies are stocked and within their expiration dates.
- Patient Safety: Counsel patients on the proper use, storage, and handling of compounded medications. Ensure accurate and clear communication regarding medication instructions and potential side effects.
- Assist Pharmacists: Work closely with pharmacists to ensure smooth workflow and efficient preparation and dispensing of compounded medications.
- Maintain Equipment: Clean, sanitize, and maintain all compounding equipment and work areas to prevent contamination and ensure optimal performance.
- Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and complete records of all compounded prescriptions, including ingredients used, procedures followed, and any special instructions.
- Stay Informed: Keep up to date with current compounding practices, new regulations, and industry trends to ensure adherence to best practices and standards.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program preferred.
- Certification: Must hold a valid Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), with additional certification in compounding (e.g., PTCB Compounding Certification) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in pharmacy compounding preferred, particularly in a sterile and non-sterile compounding environment.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of compounding procedures, equipment, and medications.
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical calculations, drug interactions, and contraindications.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to [X] pounds.
- Ability to perform fine motor skills tasks, including weighing and measuring ingredients, and handling delicate equipment.
Work Environment:
- Work will be performed in a sterile compounding pharmacy setting with exposure to pharmaceutical chemicals and equipment.
