Job Title: Armed Security Guard
Reports To: Security Supervisor or designated authority
Summary: The Armed Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the assigned premises, personnel, and assets. This position requires vigilance, professionalism, and the ability to respond effectively to various security situations, up to and including the use of a firearm when justified and in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Armed Security Guard must maintain a visible presence to deter crime, control access, and enforce regulations while adhering to all legal and ethical standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patrolling and Surveillance:Conduct regular foot and/or vehicle patrols of the assigned area to detect and deter suspicious activity, unauthorized access, or safety hazards.
- Monitor surveillance equipment (e.g., CCTV, alarms) and report any irregularities or incidents.
- Maintain a visible security presence to deter potential threats.
- Access Control:Control and monitor entry and exit points, verifying credentials and authorizing access according to established protocols.
- Screen individuals and vehicles as required.
- Maintain visitor logs and issue passes.
- Emergency Response:Respond promptly and appropriately to alarms, incidents, and emergencies (e.g., medical situations, fires, security breaches).
- Follow established emergency procedures and protocols.
- Provide initial crisis intervention and assist until appropriate authorities arrive.
- Enforcement of Rules and Regulations:Enforce client and company policies, rules, and regulations.
- Address violations and take appropriate action according to established guidelines.
- Incident Reporting:Prepare accurate and detailed written reports of incidents, security breaches, and daily activities.
- Document any irregularities, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards.
- Use of Force:Be knowledgeable of and adhere to the company's use-of-force policy and all applicable laws regarding the use of firearms and other defensive measures.
- Utilize de-escalation techniques whenever possible.
- Employ authorized weapons only when there is an imminent threat of serious bodily injury or death to self or others, and in compliance with established guidelines.
- Communication:Maintain clear and effective communication with supervisors, colleagues, clients, and law enforcement as necessary.
- Utilize radio or other communication devices effectively.
- Provide information and assistance to visitors and personnel in a professional manner.
- Weapon Maintenance and Safety:Maintain assigned firearm(s) and other equipment in safe and operational condition.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures related to the handling, storage, and transportation of firearms.
- Participate in required firearms training and qualifications.
- First Aid/CPR (if certified):Provide basic first aid and CPR in emergency situations if properly trained and certified.
- Other Duties:Perform other duties as assigned by the Security Supervisor or designated authority.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age (may vary by state and client requirements).
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Possession of a valid state-issued security guard license.
- Possession of a valid state-issued firearms permit or license to carry a firearm for security duties.
- Successful completion of required firearms training and qualification.
- Clean criminal background check and ability to pass a drug screening.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make quick decisions in stressful situations.
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to established procedures.
- Professional demeanor and appearance.
- Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including standing, walking, and potentially running or physically restraining individuals when necessary and legally justified.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in law enforcement, military, or security-related field.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Additional security-related certifications or training.
- Familiarity with security technology and systems.
Working Conditions:
- May work in various indoor and outdoor environments, potentially exposed to adverse weather conditions.
- May be required to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- May be required to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Potential exposure to confrontational or dangerous situations.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to meet physical agility requirements as may be established by the company or client.
- Ability to use hands and fingers to operate firearms, radios, and other equipment.
