Summary of Primary Functions:
The Precision Construction Technician is responsible for installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of John Deere, Topcon, Leica, Trimble and Teleo precision construction technologies. This role ensures proper functionality of machine control systems, assists with technology-related service work, and provides customer training as needed. This position reports directly to the local service department and is compensated on an hourly basis. This role is ideal for candidates with technical expertise in precision construction technology who want to focus on hands-on service and support within a growing organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: May include some or all of the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to Dobbs Equipment Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and all applicable state and federal regulations.
• Installation & Calibration: Perform the installation, setup, and calibration of machine control systems, including SmartGrade, Topcon, and Teleo products on John Deere and all-makes equipment.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues related to machine positioning technology.
• Service Support: Work closely with shop and field service technicians to support technology-related service work and machine diagnostics.
• Customer Assistance & Training: Provide operator training and support to ensure proper use and functionality of precision construction equipment.
• Product Updates & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of installed systems, service work performed, and customer interactions using the company’s internal system.
• Collaboration & Reporting: Communicate effectively with the service team and product support specialists to ensure seamless customer experiences.
• Continuing Education: Stay up to date with the latest industry advancements, software updates, and best practices through ongoing training and certification programs.
Qualifications & Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty independently and satisfactorily to its successful completion.
• Experience with machine control systems, GPS/GNSS technology, and construction equipment preferred.
• Ability to read schematics, technical manuals, and follow installation guidelines.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills related to electronic and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both shop and field environments.
• Strong computer skills, including familiarity with diagnostic software and remote support tools.
• Willingness to travel locally to job sites as needed.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company/service vehicles.
Education, Skill, and/or Experience Requirements:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; plus a minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills:
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rates and percentages.
Reasoning Ability:
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
