Job Summary
The Chemical Process Engineer supports the safe, efficient, and scalable production of chemical and chemical-based products for consumer and industrial use. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting manufacturing processes while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise in chemical engineering with strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Design & Optimization
- Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing teams to develop and optimize chemical processes for scale-up and full-scale production.
- Utilize engineering methodologies and process simulation tools to design and refine production systems.
- Monitor operations to ensure optimal process performance and product quality.
- Develop and implement instrumentation, control charts, rules and responses for in process controls systems (SPC).
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Review process designs to identify and mitigate chemical hazards; ensure safety measures are fully integrated.
- Provide input on chemical selection, material compatibility, and process equipment to minimize operational risks.
- Ensure all processes comply with applicable chemical handling regulations and safety/environmental standards.
Technical Documentation & SOPs
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), batch records, and documentation to support safe and consistent production.
- Establish and track production quality metrics and process KPIs.
- Document and implement process improvements and corrective actions.
Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement
- Apply structured problem-solving approaches to identify root causes of process issues.
- Recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve yield, quality, and safety.
- Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives and process validation activities.
Collaboration & Support
- Work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, quality, safety, and R&D teams.
- Support the introduction of new products and technologies into manufacturing.
- Provide on-the-floor engineering support and technical training as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (required).
- 0–2 years of related experience in a chemical manufacturing or process engineering role (entry-level candidates encouraged to apply).
- Basic understanding of process engineering principles, including fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and mass balance.
- Familiarity with chemical safety practices, hazard analysis, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic process simulation software (e.g., Aspen, ChemCAD) is a plus.
- Knowledge of GMP, ISO, or other quality system standards preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based with regular time spent on the plant floor.
- Must be able to wear required PPE and work safely in a chemical manufacturing environment.
- Occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs), standing, or walking in production areas.
Salary : $78,000 - $88,000
