Duties: The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 8X4
Responsible for assisting the Deputy Superintendent of Reentry with coordinating and monitoring programming and unit activities. Directly communicates with incarcerated individuals regularly. Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary teams at Norfolk on various Department initiatives to include but not limited to vendor programming, volunteer and chaplain-based programming, and unit operations. Assist Director of Treatment, Unit Director, and Director of Classification with various tasks as needed. Assist with the oversight of various logs and IMS functions. Review NOR systems as needed and implement necessary changes to enhance the effectiveness of these procedures. Composes and prepares correspondence, forms, and reports, including those of a confidential nature. Assist with the collection, review and process all reports in a timely manner and in compliance with DOC policy/procedure. Works in collaboration with various divisions; responds to inquiries from agency staff and others to provide information regarding division programs. Ensure all deadlines are managed appropriately and all issues are responded to in an efficient and timely manner. Conducts CJIS checks on vendors, volunteers and others as needed and enter in PASS system. Assist Deputy Superintendent of Reentry with completing special projects. Acts in a confidential manner on all issues relating to the business of the Department of Correction. All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of principles and practices of office management. Excellent word processing and proofreading skills. Knowledge of Department of Correction policies and procedures. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work independently using personal initiative. Excellent organizational skills.
Comments:
This is a Civil Service position. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must have no felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents. The DOC urges bi-lingual applicants to apply.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience.*

II. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*

  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
